Huawei revealed earlier this year that it was creating a dual-booting Windows Phone and Android handset for the US, before ditching its plans a short time later. While the Chinese manufacturer never explained its backtracking, it’s making its feeling for Windows Phone clear this week. In an interview with The Seattle Times, Huawei’s head of international media affairs, Joe Kelly, has revealed the company didn’t make money from its two handsets running Windows Phone, and that "nobody made any money in Windows Phone."
A bold statement at a bad time for Microsoft
The bold statement comes just months after Microsoft made Windows Phone free for device manufacturers, and more than a year after Huawei previously described Windows Phone as "weak." Since then, Microsoft has also launched a web-based hardware partner portal alongside Windows Phone 8.1, allowing smaller device manufacturers, stores, and operators to create white-label Windows Phone devices with low specifications and low prices. Microsoft is trying to boost Windows Phone sales and usage through this and many other efforts.
Microsoft also announced new Windows Phone partnerships with Chinese manufacturers like Foxconn, Lenovo, Longcheer, and ZTE earlier this year, and Huawei appears to be the first existing partner to put its plans on hold for future Microsoft-powered devices. Huawei’s comments come just as Microsoft is desperately trying to tempt more device manufacturers to adopt its mobile operating system amid its ongoing struggle to compete with Android.

yo listen up b my second touch screen phone was a huawei and it was a blast so don't talk any smack ya hear
Wait, so if memory serves me right, this would've been the first dual-bootable phone? With today's mobile OSes that is. That would've been cool, sheerly for the novelty value of "wow, it's like a two in one".
dual boot android and windows phone so you can optionally never use windows phone again
Many companies are having trouble making money off of Android - the smartphone market is a very competitive space. Windows Phone is a great OS in my opinion.
I like my windows phone. I'm not into smartphones all that much (apps, etc). I just browse the internet sometimes and text. I never got what all the rage is about smartphones
Basically Huawei being butthurt that they couldn't make such good windows phones like nokia.
As much as I love my windows phone, in 17 days I am buying a Note 4. I am just tired of waiting for things to get better, there is no phone that is a upgrade to my current one that I can get on Verizon and it does not look like there will be one soon. Verizon has yet to release the Cyan update and 8.1, I have 8.1 from the developer preview but they are releasing the Denim update in the coming months and I do not even want to know how long it will take to get that. When Windows Phone gets its shit together I will move back, but in the meantime I am gonna go with Android.

It really is, if it could just get the same app support as IOS and Android it would be practically perfect in my opinion.

While WP is moving at a too slow update cadence in my opinion, I think Verizon is probably the one to blame with regards to update delays. If you want fast updates on the Android side of things, HTC and Motorola are the fastest around by a wide margin.
I heard from an article that Windows Phone is considered to be the next biggest business phone OS. Anyone have a link to that article?
Also, in response to the article: they're probably right, but I'm hoping that it gains traction soon cause I don't think it deserves to die - it's a great OS.
probably the only one who made money off of windows phones is the carriers that got paid to support them

Best phone I have ever used.

This is why I got a Nexus 5. I get my updates straight from Google the moment they are available.
Wow, holy shit this thread isn't full of a bunch of Microsoft hating assholes.
Nokia is the only company benefiting off Windows Phone

... No they're not, why do you think they died?
Nobody's beneftting from WP except Microsoft.

And even then...
It's kind of sad too, a lot of what made WP is being stripped away bit by bit.
I want my hubs and social integration back, fuck apps.
Windows Phone is my favourite mobile platform. The way the OS is designed fits perfectly with the hardware buttons and the whole thing is just right for me.
I'm not a massive user of apps either. The important stuff like TeamViewer and Spotify is there and the rest is embedded into the phone already.

Yeah, Nokia did so well they sold their devices division and went into making licensed Android devices with their software.
No, you are thinking of Samsung there. Huawei just fill their phones with borderline spyware.
I was working in smm this summer and our company got Huawei as a client, I literally had to dig through hundreds of customer complaints. These included: Phone would stop working at colder temperature, this phone was sold to me as a different phone, this phone is awful, this phone is dying and it barely lasted me, this phones camera is pure trash, screen stopped responding, customer service is awful, and many many more, I can safely say the consensus in Russia at least is that an overwhelming majority dislike Huawei and that was a tough client
the guys they sent also didnt speak russian so I had to translate everything to English on behalf of our firm

They made a lot of money out of windows phone when they sold their windows phone division to Microsoft.

But even then you have Verizon delaying the updates. My Galaxy Nexus was supposed to receive Jelly Bean as soon as it was released, however Verizon delayed it for months. Not to mention they actually added Verizon bloatware such as myVerizon and other Verizon apps. And this was a Nexus device, the ones supposed to receive updates immediately and be stock Android.

That's dumb as fuck. T-Mobile doesn't bloatware the nexus phones. The only thing you get is a notification bar telling you usage stats, no apps or other gimmicks
