EA's stock is as low as it was in 1998, the same time they acquired westwood studios
Its currently 11.91, just before it went down it was at 67.57
The range is still lowering, and thanks to there recent totally shitty tactics its been going down the drain
they started doing a little better but then the coupon thing happened

Oh how the mighty have started falling.
EA sure fucked up with Old Republic, 200 million budget and it ends up being free to play less than a year after the release.
I would be interested in seeing a Valve version.

Pretty sure VALVe is a private company, and isn't listed on the stock market.

Valve is privately held
I expected this to happen at the drop.

I'm half-expecting EA to get bought by some other (good I hope) company once their stocks drop to damn near nothing. If they keep doing what they are, it'll be only a matter of time.
Personally I'd like to see Gearbox or Valve make the purchase, if it came to that. And return EA to it's former glory starting with this.

Valve buys EA?
Oh dear God, I don't think the universe could handle one (already Godly) company having such great power.
All those teams, all those licenses, all those rights on names and games...

SimCity: Black Mesa
EA used to be a really great company and Valve IMO would be a perfect choice to make that purchase. Sports Car GT was one of my first games on PS1 and I can't even count the hours (days/months) I spent playing the crap outta that game, everything else I've played from EA just feels soulless... Everything modern anyway.

Sim City: Counter Strike Edition
Map building would (could) go as smooth as sliding on a triple waxed linoleum floor in fluffy cotton socks.

imo their most memorable

VALVe is a small development studio that publishes its own games digitally on one platform, EA is a massive corporation that owns dozens of development studios and publishes it's own games digitally, and physically across several platforms. Where do you get the idea that VALVe would be able to muster that kind of dosh to buy EA?

Sounds to me like they challenged a bit too much.

We don't really know how much money Valve makes or how much it's worth, being a privately held company and all. Considering how massive Steam is today, I suppose it could be possible, but then again, we don't really know of how much money we're talking about, maybe they could, maybe not.
As for EA, well, you watched the video, it's value has been decreasing ever since the TORtanic incident, and it doesn't look like it's going up anytime soon. If it keeps going down, a takeover from another company is highly likely. Not sure if Valve could do it, though.

If EA's stocks drop low enough VALVe could in theory make that purchase, and with all that falls behind EA I think it would be a good idea. It may be wishful thinking but it could work, maybe like this:
Origin: Say goodbye and move over to Steam. Would take time but doable and deals with the digital aspect.
Console Platforms: Most of those teams already work on those, so no real big deal there and also handles the physical distribution to a point. Could also add the option to use Steam or not on install.
Still, one can dream...

Because Steam
Because Valve get's it's share of every single game sold on steam, and steamsales are basically gigantic twisters of money for Valve.
That said, I don't think the folks at Valve would be very interested in acquiring EA even if they could.

Not going to happen. Ever. I don't believe valve has 3 billion dollars laying around.
Not going to happen. Ever. I don't believe valve has 3 billion dollars laying around.
True, but who said the final value/cost would be 3 billion? Besides, we still don't know how much Valve has.
We could just ask Gabe, but fat chance he'll tell us.
The employees at Valve are picked by Gabe personally to fit in their special culture (work at whatever you want, no one is anyone's boss,...).
Even if they had the money, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't buy EA just because both work very differently.
I miss the Bond games, Battlefield 2, and all those other games that were good. Now the CEO has turned a friendly company into a stock market

This appears in my related every single time I watch any of these Electronic Arts videos.
Guys, guys. I know you love Valve and EA made some terrible decision which seem to have no end. But if Valve acquired EA, Valve would have incredible power, it would be almost a monopoly and that's never good.
True, but who said the final value/cost would be 3 billion?
well uh EA is a public company so you can figure it out using simple math
https://www.google.com/finance?client=ob&q=NASDAQ:EA
Shares 318.39M
in order to claim any ownership over EA they'd have to own at least 50% of shares so let's just say they need 159 Million shares.
the shares are currently rated at 11.91
159,000,000 x 11.91 =
1,893,690,000
and even then majority control doesn't mean dictatorship of the company because the other shareholders also have a voice
yeah go read up on the stock market a bit before you say stuff

I don't think monopoly means what you think it means.
Apple is trying to have a monopoly on all phones. They are trying to acheive this with bullshit patents and lawsuits.
Valve isn't trying to have a monopoly last I checked. Even if they aquired EA. EA isn't the only other distributor.
~snip~
Did the math...
318.39 Million shares
318,390,000,000 x 11.91 = 3,811,128,300
So if 50% of the stocks are needed to own the company, they'd need $1,905,564,150
That sound about right?

They might not try to have monopoly on digital distribution but they definitely have assets to become one. The current leader(s) of Valve are all respectful towards the customers, I hope that never changes, but you never know.
