The four-door 2001 Toyota Tacoma with a Silver paint job and TRD package. Owned my yours truely.
The Legacy:
American Special Forces use:
During Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom, multiple Toyota Tacomas have been observed in use by special forces units of the U.S. Army. Typically, they have been Double Cab models, with SR5 and TRD packages.
Despite the fact that the Hilux, which the Tacoma is based on, is extremely common in the Middle East, SF found it to be easier to purchase them from American dealerships, modify them appropriately, and ship them to their areas. The Tacoma and Hilux share a similar body, but the chassis is significantly different in the Tacoma and believed to be much weaker. The gasoline engine used is significantly quieter than the diesel engines used in the HMMWV. These were modified by eliminating the factory radio, along with almost all exterior lights and door buzzers. The front headlights have been modified to work in IR, in order to work with night vision. The engines are unmodified, but the vehicles have been fitted with brush guards, Warn winches, and a rollbar with a machine gun mount.
The Toyota Tacoma and Hilux have seen action with Special Forces groups around the world including the Austrians, Kiwis and British.

You're going to sacrifice your truck for this?
Why do you say sacrifice? Everything can be removed (With the exception of IFF markers and Paintjob) so it's not really a problem. I technically don't have to paint it either.
-snip- If everything is removable my point is moot.
Are you concerned about bb dents?
Are you concerned about bb dents?
Hahahahaha. No.
All I want is to keep my windshield intact, I already have a crack in it from god knows what. BB dents are not a concern, nor are cosmetic damages.
Are you concerned about bb dents?
It's a truck meant for off-road use. I'd be concerned about more than 6mm dents I can pop right out with a suction cup.
Just sayin, if it was my car that I use to go places then I would be concerned. But then again, I wouldn't use a truck to just go places.

I imagine the machine gun mount wouldn't be so easy to just take on and off?
I imagine the machine gun mount wouldn't be so easy to just take on and off?
PVC pipe with a removable mount would work. At least in my mind.
I imagine the machine gun mount wouldn't be so easy to just take on and off?
I've given it a little though and I'm not positive how to go about it. Basically, the mount can stay as long as the machine gun is removable but idealy you should be able to totally remove the mount. I need to consult with a few friends who know cars and see if we can't rig something up. So, if anyone has any ideas feel free to post them here.
I've also considered using some of those rope and pully deals (The name escapes me) to just mount them to the roof, around through the open windows and secure a mount onto that.
Trailer straps like this basically;

Basically what I have in mind. Like a couple of brackets secured to the truck you can just slide a pvc pipe into and provide 360 degrees of rotation.

Like bungee cord?
Also, this sight might help. It's products for securing things to a flatbed truck. I'm sure the principal is the same.
That's what I was thinking off, figured it out a minute before you got to me. The Machine Gun mount is a bit of challenge because I don't own a M249 or anything of the such. I figure after I do all the other mods to my truck I'll get one, but even if I didn't the idea is that someone from the field could mount their own (Assuming I can get the okay for this.)

Echo 1 is coming out with an M240 Bravo. Would be perfect.
That's what I've been waiting for myself. I want to see it released before I decide though, because if I got a M249 I can remove it and use that for Airsoft. M240 is considerably bigger and heavier.
[editline]24th November 2010[/editline]
Oh, and I have no idea how much a M240 will be. $360 or so for a M249 from Echo 1 but the Trigger Happy version of the M240 is a $1,500 or something, so I have no idea what this one will cost.
I wouldn't mind having a rugged looking truck like in the reference pictures
What I'd do though is to paint it tan or something
Oh god I would do this to my Jeep. Or paint my Jeep flat OD green.
Just imagine this with a machine gun and not painted yellow

They should've done that with the Black Ops Edition Jeep.

Paint jobs are expensive though, so I don't know if I'll paint my truck but it's on the table.

For the mean time, if you want it for looks, you can get a springer M240 for about $20-$30 on Ebay. At least until you get an actual support weapon.

DIY it then. Go to an automotive store and pick up a few cans of tan, matte spraypaint or something. At least for a base.
What color is the Tacoma you have now? Silver?

The springer idea is excellent, I was considering getting a springer M16 for impressions but I didn't know they had springer SAWS. It'd be a good prop to make a mount around.
As for doing it myself, I may, I just need to take the time to check how much that may run me, if they have the colors I may want and if I have the patience. Right now it's Silver, I wanted to take pictures but it's too dark to do that right now.
I should buy decals to go with it like;

There you go. Comes with a flashlight and laser. All for $23.

I plan on using a rattle can on the whole Jeep so it will be alot of them to buy. Last OP I went to I saw a OD XJ lifted and looked awesome.

Generation Kill humvee paintjob
Generation Kill humvee paintjob
The one that cost $500? Ha.
How did they make the smudges? I don't remember if they had that on the series, looks like they just smudged them on there with a rag. I don't think I'd do that myself. Flat OD or Ranger Green for me, since I live on the East Coast and all, tan wouldn't blend in anywhere.

Unless you did Dark Earth. A bit of an OD/Tan mix.
[editline]24th November 2010[/editline]
Now I want a Tacoma I can do this with. I'm searching used cars. Just think if everyone on here had one. We'd have a convoy.
[editline]24th November 2010[/editline]
Also, another cool decal.

I've seen used Tacoma's go for $1,000 and you don't have to really worry about the "Used" part because Tacoma's never die.
I'm also going to mount a CB radio to the dash. Added to OP.
[editline]24th November 2010[/editline]
I've been driving mine around with the Check Engine light on and a bad belt for months. Before that apparently my Dad drove it in four-wheel drive on the highway (He never took off four wheel drive, so he had to put in a new transmission) and I recently found out he drove the thing around with no oil in it. It's a tough fucker, I'll give it that. My Dad is also an idiot.
CB radios are cheap. Just make sure you don't buy Ratshack (radio shack) brand. And an antenna, cable and all that jazz.

Luckily I know how to service cars (at least a bit). National Guard came to our local high school and showed us how to service a Humvee. Was sweet.
