There's always a threat. I haven't been into the lore in a while but they fought rebels until the covenant threat came. So yeah they're still needed for high profile spec ops missions and just in case more aliens came to rape.
I just don't see how those kids can fend of the spartans. In the lore, a bunch of spartans killed 1000 brutes alone.
Microsoft loses money when they make the xbox console last time I checked.

They wouldn't be able to advertise or do anything to PC gamers, Halo games entice people into buying consoles because if you look at the amount of people on 4chan/Facepunch/reddit etc they don't want to buy a console but they want Halo 4, they can earn more money if they cave into pressure and buy a console.

Spartans have never attacked UNSC Officer academies and there has never been a civil war, there were a number of insurrections but they didnt wear UNSC uniforms and study at UNSC academies.

The SPARTAN program was made to put down rebels trying to gain independence from the UNSC.
There IS a civil war. A shitload of colonies are trying to separate from the union and they have gone to war against UNSC forces.

they waited until the XBox's discontinuation before they released Halo 2 for PC, intentionally, so I wouldn't start holding my breath in anticipation any time soon.

The webseries doesn't follow the story of Halo 4, the events of Halo 4 take place at least 10-20 years after the events of this webseries. Halo 4 is also the first time humanity ever saw Prometheans, so that's pretty much out of the question.
