Seems pretty robust to me, personally I hope we never do see it to the extent it is in America.
American TV sucks my dick, roughly 10 minutes of bullshit commercials about crap I don't care about, glad I stopped watching it a while ago.

Paying top dollar for a cable plan and still have to watch a 1/3rd of ads on shows? No fucking way in hell.
Netflix is the real savior here.
Ads are bad. Especially medical and lawyer ones.

Same here, and I can only hope services like Netflix end up killing the pay TV business completely over here.
I remember the last time I went to America, I got bored and decided to watch the telly there.
I sat there for a while watching King of the Hill, and then it cut to adverts for ages, and then back to King of the hill for like five minutes. I pretty much just turned it off after twenty minutes.
How the fuck do Americans put up with this shit?

Almost everyone I know records shows on DVR and skips commercials. Even my grandma doesn't watch live TV.

How frequent is product placement?
How frequent is product placement?
Probably 3, 3 minute breaks of commercials per half hour.
And that's just breaks in programming to show ads. They're all sorts of plugs in shows for stuff like products, like 30 Rock and Snapple.
How frequent is product placement?
Generally a one hour time slot for a show consists of 40 ~ 45 minutes of TV and 15 minutes of commercials. Half that for 30 minute time slots. At least on non-cable channels. I think some premium channels like FX or HBO don't have commercials that cut into their shows. No idea about regular cable channels though. Didn't have it growing up.
Cinema is pretty disgraceful too. Pay up to a tenner to go watch adverts for half an hour before being shown the film you want to see.
Very informative video! Went well with a Golden Virgnia™ handrolled cigarette!

whenever i see the words "real doctor" underneath some fake name i laugh.
In commercials when it says: "Not a paid actor" when they are selling a medicine, I always think, "duh they're paying a average person to say the fucking lines". I also wonder if any of these commercials actually get a person on their own free will to say they like something, without paying them.

they did it right
How frequent is product placement?
You won't notice any obvious product placement in the vast majority of shows. They might be getting paid to use certain things, but it's not referred to actively. The only exception is reality TV. They'll often have a certain car, for example, that's mentioned all the time. The Amazing Race comes to mind.

Chuck handled their Subway placement like that and it was great.

It isn't even just the ads and product placement. Its the culture around the whole thing. Compare American versions of shows to British versions, ala Kitchen Nightmares. Still enjoyable but alot of stupid dramatic garbage.
The rules must be pretty damn strict because whenever I see the little P at the start of a program I sometimes keep an eye out for a placement but I can never fucking see it.

I didn't feel like going out one day to some random beach in California, so I stayed home and watched the Matrix on TV. My family came home before I finished the movie, roughly five hours later.
The best part is still how they cut to commercials when there is like 5-10 seconds left of a show. Then they cut back and show the last few seconds and cut to commercials again.

I made a post replying to the above then he snipped it :(

He is good for hangovers, but wanna know what else works even better? Blowfish! For hangovers!
When I was staying up late watching Breaking Bad on an AMC stream, it boggled my mind to see five ad-breaks during one episode!

If you arrive at the time it's like, at most 10 minutes of trailers, and honestly, I *like* watching the trailers.

Probably one of the only ways movie theaters make money. Also the reason why concessions are expensive as fuck

if the industry is struggling that much, maybe its time for that industry to go, and for something else to replace it.
