• U.S. cutting back on hot food for troops in Afghanistan
The Defense Department is cutting back to two hot meals a day, most likely just lunch and dinner. The reason: the Pentagon is trying to scale down the number of contractors needed to cook and serve meals and run dining areas.
http://security.blogs.cnn.com/2013/06/21/u-s-cutting-back-on-hot-chow-for-troops/
This isn't the right way to cut spending you assholes
Right, because THIS is how we reduce the deficit. Start cutting things that actually need to be cut you idiots. Those in the service get poor enough treatment as is.
hot food is a luxury that someone who is trained to kill doesn't need
hot food is a luxury that someone who is trained to kill doesn't need
I really, REALLY hope you are not being serious.
I really, REALLY hope you are not being serious.
please don't tell me that there are people who can deal with a firefight but not with cold food
Serve me some cold MREs all day
The men and women who put their lives on the line in whatever global conflict America decides it should be involved in at least deserves some fucking scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast. At first I thought it wasn't really a big deal but now I realize this is just insulting.
Serve me some cold MREs all day
This isn't even about mres, this is about the field mess halls, which serve food that is actually not made in a factory/industrial kitchen.
I mean why the fuck is this even an issue? They still get hot lunches/dinners - it's just the breakfasts that are cold even I normally have cold breakfasts
This has nothing to do with reducing deficits, this has to do with reducing troop level in Afghanistan and withdrawing US presence.
...Oh. I apologize for being stupid and committing the cardinal sin of not actually reading the article. Whoops.
please don't tell me that there are people who can deal with a firefight but not with cold food
what about engineers and medics and generals and whatnot
please don't tell me that there are people who can deal with a firefight but not with cold food
I am sure they can live, but that isn't the point. These service members that volunteered to protect their country and give up a few freedoms so we are safe, I think the least we could do is make sure they are getting fed properly.
This has nothing to do with reducing deficits, this has to do with reducing troop level in Afghanistan and withdrawing US presence.
How about we actually withdraw the troops then rather than just slap the ones still there in the face?

If the U.S government wants to save money, maybe they should stop getting involved in conflicts overseas.
How about we actually withdraw the troops then rather than just slap the ones still there in the face?
I have a feeling you didn't read the article. [editline]23rd June 2013[/editline]
If the U.S government wants to save money, maybe they should stop getting involved in conflicts overseas.
And you clearly did not read the article.
if they can "give up their freedoms" then they can deal with cereal instead of bacon
Could you really give bacon up man?
This has nothing to do with reducing deficits, this has to do with reducing troop level in Afghanistan and withdrawing US presence.
I just want lots of agree ratings from people who didn't read
Could you really give bacon up man?
What if BrainDeath is a woman? :v:
please don't tell me that there are people who can deal with a firefight but not with cold food
It is not so much that you can't "deal with it" but more like that midnight chow and breakfast are two meals that are really nice to have. You are constantly doing things overseas that are grueling and tiring at odd hours, and when you are at the end of the mission day at 0100 for example, food and shower are two things at the top of your list. Limiting meals to lunch and dinner really sucks for those on that type of shift.
What if BrainDeath is a woman? :v:
then that'd be another argument for the enlistment of female troops because obviously i am better prepared for the "harsh environment of Afghanistan (no fryup for breakfast)" than Facepunch believes your average US infantryman is
And you clearly did not read the article.
I've read it now, just doing the usual FP and jumping the gun :downs:

They will still have rations(mres) and other stuff available but less accessible mess halls.
I have a feeling you didn't read the article. [editline]23rd June 2013[/editline] And you clearly did not read the article.
Yeah, out of context, its sounds like a shitty thing to do. But in a nutshell, it seems that they are trying to start cutting out contractors so they can start pulling troops out of Afghanistan.
The military believes "most soldiers don't consume the midnight meal and breakfast is also a low attendance event.
Bullshit. The chow hall was always packed to the gills during breakfast. Mid rats were lower attendance, but still good for odd hour workers.
Wow. Is it really that weird to not eat hot food all the time? I normally only eat hot food at dinner.
