Snakes on a train - Japanese bullet train makes unscheduled stop to remove stowaway snake.
A snake lies in a container after it was caught in bullet train, in Hamamatsu, central Japan, Monday, Sept. 26, 2016. The snake was found on a Japanese Shinkansen “bullet” train, wrapped around an armrest when it was spotted about an hour after departure, forcing the train to make an unscheduled stop.
What a cutie.
Looks like the friendliest snake I have ever seen.
Look at that widdle FACE!
seems a bit excessive, it was just a rat snake
Oh my god it's so adorable. Thank god they got it off the train considering it could have gotten hurt or stepped on.

I doubt anyone was around who could identify it at the time and be sure it's non-venomous.

a snake that small probably couldn't even fit its mouth around a person
i would've just caught it and put it somewhere safe, but i guess i'm not a bullet train conductor man

Approaching unidentified and potentially venomous animals generally isn't a good idea no matter how seemingly harmless they are.

I'm a park ranger so I see non-venomous snakes all the time and tell people not to worry about them, and my girlfriend owns a snake, but it's unreasonable to expect your average person to be able to identify a snake as non-venomous somewhere like on a train. Also, assuming that a snake is non-venomous or can't bite you is an awful idea.
I'm tired of these motherfuckin snakes, on this motherfuckin bullet train.

As someone who owns, works with, and loves snakes I can confirm that if you don't know what the fuck it is, its best to leave it alone. I'm thankful for my knowledge of these creatures so I can literally just go outside and pick up one since I know it can't hurt me, but you can't expect your average person to be as knowledgeable.

Speaking of doing something stupid, one time I was fishing with some friends and we were with a group of other folk in the everglades, and I caught a snake with my net. It seemed harmless enough, but it was really dark and it was hard to tell what it was, and it seemed to swim quite well. I figured it was an invasive that was let go out here, especially since I was just holding it in my hands and it didn't try and run or bite me.
So I take it up to the resident herpetologist that was in our group and said "what's this?"
Turns out it was a Water Moccasin/Cottonmouth :v:

You're lucky. Those things are usually aggressive as fuck.
I know, which is why I was almost certain it wasn't one. The ones I've dealt with before were more greenish and were extremely aggressive. This one was just... mellow. I handled him like he was a normal old ball python and he didn't even care. Very strange.
You also have no clue how fast I put him back in the water when I was told what he was :v:

Could have been worse, they stopped the train at least.
