Imani Green, from south London, was shot in the head on Friday while on a respite holiday on the Caribbean island to help her cope with a genetic illness.
"I heard that she was playing with some other kids outside the front of the shop, then apparently her mum came from shopping, and told her she's to get in."
Police believe that she was an innocent victim when two men opened fire at a cafe owned by her cousin in the "peaceful" town of Duncans. Three other relatives were injured.
Officers are investigating whether the incident may have been some form of revenge attack.
Imani suffered from the blood disorder sickle-cell anaemia and had been given extended leave from school to go to Jamaica and take advantage of the warmer climate, as she did twice a year.
She was there with her mother, Donna, and other family members, but her father, Richard, stayed at the family's three-floor home in Tooting. He had to be admitted to hospital after collapsing when he was given the news of her death.
On Sunday night the head teacher of Imani's school described her as a "happy, playful and very brave" little girl.
Mitchum Brown, Imani's uncle, told The Daily Telegraph the youngster was shot shortly after persuading her mother to let her play a little longer. "I heard that she was playing with some other kids outside the front of the shop, then apparently her mum came from shopping, and told her she's to get in," he said.
"She said, 'No mummy give me five more minutes'. Her mother said 'OK, five more minutes, then get inside'.
"After that her mum and her daughter [Imani's sister] heard shots fired. When she ran out, Imani was on the ground in a pool of blood and three other family members were shot.
"I heard that the family member that owned the shop was in a dispute with a guy the day before and they said they were going to come back and do what they were going to do."
Mr Brown said that her father, a building worker, was in hospital and in shock. "He was saying Imani was his life."
Imani's sister, Janella, who was in Jamaica, said: "We heard gunshots. We ran outside and shouted 'Imani, Imani, Imani'. I picked her up off the ground and realised she was still breathing. I flagged down a car and they drove us to hospital. The rest is history."
Superintendent Steve Brown, from the Jamaican police, said: "She was not deliberately targeted. She was with family members at the location when the gunmen attacked but she was not the target."
Murder detectives from Kingston, the Jamaican capital, are assisting local police in Duncans, a small town on the island's northern coast.
Anne Wilson, headmistress at Fircroft Primary School in Tooting, said: "Imani was a happy, playful child who was popular with staff and pupils alike. She dealt with her illness very bravely and coped well with the special arrangements we had to have in place to support her."
Imani's body is expected to be flown back to Britain after a post mortem examination in Jamaica. British consular staff were helping the family.

What the fuck. Whoever randomly chose to shoot a 8 year old child deserves to be shot in the balls, shot in the knees and shot in the face.
why
Wow, that's terrible.... :smith:

Godspeed, lassy, and here's to the hope that justice shall be swift and good.
wow if this guy was trapped in a room with any individual.
Dang, I wonder how bad the mother felt.
Fuck. That's terrible.

'Tooting'. Heeheehee.
I mean, um
Poor girl. Those guys are fucking bastards. What kind of scum shoots an innocent 8 year old?
The dispute was probably over something ridiculously stupid, too, not that the 'seriousness' of the dispute changes anything.
[sub][sub]Heehee. 'Tooting'.[/sub][/sub]
an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind
Not if you jab both of their eyes out first.
an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind
why only take one eye out at a time?

It does, actually, It brings closure knowing the bastard who did this is dead. Now go back to attacking people who actually support the second amendment. Fucking Democrats.

what the fuck? when did i say anything about me going against the 2nd amendment or me being a democrat???
Damn, imagine how the mother must feel.
It is one of those moments you look back to and realize if one tiny detail went differently everything would have gone a totally different direction.
"If only I said no," "If only I did this, did that," So saddening.

She was still alive, holy hell the pain she probably felt. That's absolutely terrible from start to finish - she has sickle cell anemia, which already causes enough problems, and she finally gets time to just enjoy life only to have it ended so prematurely. I hope her last moments weren't as painful as they sound.
I hope whoever did this faces justice.

You don't understand how killing the guy could make anything better, Which to me implied you don't support capital punishment, Which is a right wing ideal, Therefore you are clearly left wing.

holy shit can we like get a beer together sometime i think your rly cool
It does, actually, It brings closure knowing the bastard who did this is dead.
not necessarily, considering many more people were killed in Norway and those affected didn't feel the need to execute anybody. we can't advocate killing people just on the off chance that it might make the victims feel slightly better - that's what a psychiatrist is for, coming to grips with the facts and not having to hurt other people to make yourself feel better.
Now go back to attacking people who actually support the second amendment. Fucking Democrats.
or maybe you were being sarcastic with that first thing? I'd like to say this seals it but it's so hard to tell these days
You don't understand how killing the guy could make anything better, Which to me implied you don't support capital punishment, Which is a right wing ideal, Therefore you are clearly left wing.
Okay, so I'm against capital punishment, and that makes me left wing.
But I support gun rights so does that make me right wing?
Or is that some kind of fucking paradox?
it's all a dream

Can I do the shooting? I've killed animals before, and that's what we're dealing with here.
Not really news worthy, people get shot every day, especially in Jamaica.
Can I do the shooting? I've killed animals before, and that's what we're dealing with here.
If I walked up to you and said that I spend some of my spare time killing animals and that I was going to shoot somebody, what would be your immediate response?
If I walked up to you and said that I spend some of my spare time killing animals and that I was going to shoot somebody, what would be your immediate response?
that depends on whether or not your gun is already in my face
It must been a gang related violence. How would the shooter feel after killing an innocence 8 year old girl.
that depends on whether or not your gun is already in my face
so that whole "I am going to shoot someone" thing wouldn't affect your response on its own?
an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind
So a little girl is dead and we're not going to pursue the perpetrator?
So a little girl is dead and we're not going to pursue the perpetrator?
He's saying the perpetrator shouldn't be executed with a firearm, and that's it. That does not mean they shouldn't be pursued, prosecuted and punished for their actions.
Basically, no revenge killing.
