Does your band have trouble getting on? Do you have creative differences? Are you looking to form a band and need advise on getting started? Is there someone in your band that is causing problems? If so then this is the thread for you, as I start to see patterns in advise I'll expand on the OP. This can be for musical and social problems. Rules 1. Give as much information as possible, every band is different and we may not give good advise on generalisations. 2. Try to tell the story either from an impartial stand point, or try to tell us from the point of view from each individual, this also helps us to give you advise. 3. Don't give shitty advise. 4. Take criticism well but make sure that when giving it, make sure it's constructive, click here for more info http://www.facepunch.com/threads/751702-A-Useful-Guide-to-the-Subject-of-Constructive-Criticism-for-the-Creator-and-Critic. 5. Post the results, we may not get things right the first time as this is new, but we can learn what works and what doesn't. 6. Think about the feelings of others, but don't make it the main concern i.e. If someone isn't musically up to playing in this band, and you need to kick him/her out, then give advise on how to break it to him in the best way not how to skirt around the problem. 7. Try to keep on topic.
My roadie wont give me blowjobs what do [editline]27th February 2011[/editline] a crocodile ate my bassist
Make your roadie your bassist. Two birds one stone.
I quit mine after 3 months. I just couldn't get on with the guitarist and bassist. Things really came to a head for me when they took my phone and sent abusive texts to almost everyone on my contacts list.

I live in a small town in southwestern Arkansas. Closest medium-population city is Texarkana, about an hour away. Interested in making my own music, no genre, just whatever pops into my head at the moment. 1 music store in Texarkana, they don't allow advertising. Most people that come in seem to either play "brutalz" hardcore metal or indie bullshit and nothing in between. What do?

Some guys in my class wants me to join their band. Should I accept?
do they suck
Some guys in my class wants me to join their band. Should I accept?
Not yet. You should jam with them a bit and see how you like it. It's kind of like finding out if you want to date a girl. You spend a few weeks with them to see what their like. You find out how compatible you are with them, if they have habits or beliefs you wouldn't be able to tolerate, and most of all if they are at all interesting. Then if you like them and they like you, you make a commitment and join the band. Now if you want a girlfriend just because you want somebody to play with, go for it.
The bassist from my band is lazy. -He wont learn the songs he is supposed to. -He wont work with us during band practice. Specialy if a song needs some finishing touches. Like a solo or a bridge. -He quits playing a song right in the midle of a practice. -He allways wants to add more covers to our repertoire. When we want to finish our originals -He is allways complaining about our songs and what not... and depending on is mood, he wants to make love songs so he can dedicate them to girls. Really immature stuff. -He prefers to go out drinking when we need to work on our songs. And he misses band practice very often because of that. We are planning on going live by the end of march, and I feel he is really not ready. Here lies the problem. The only reason I don't want to kick is ass out of the band is because he is one of our founding menbers. And he is a great friend of mine. But he is seriously geting on my nerves latelly. What needs to be done?
Say that you respect him fully as a friend but that he has to step it up a notch to stay in the band.

I will, thanks.
Me and my band need help looking for a PA, other than that I think we are fine with everything, my cousin who is in the band, plays violin :smug:
Me and my friends play something along the lines of doom/stoner/sludge. We're writing good material, going to set up a rehearsal room soon. The only problem is our lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist. He seems to be bragging about us being awesome to everybody, but when the time comes for him to come and practice with us, he usually ends up drinking the evening before and unable practice the next day. This shit sucks, because he has a rather unique voice and he also is good friend of mine. This stuff ain't easy.
The guitarist in one of the many bands I play in said "dude write your own bass lines, just the root note of the chord" to the guitarist in another band I'm in, should I quit his band (It is his band).

Simple but it works.
Playing the root of the chord is a pretty common tactic in writing basslines. Simple but it works.
Yeah, if you can't play bass.
Yeah, if you can't play bass.
Technicality whore? The greatest counter melodies of all time are whole notes after all. Go and look at all the biggest hits. The melodies and basslines can be played on one hand on a piano. Great compositions aren't always technical.

[editline]1st March 2011[/editline] It was the assumption that all basslines are the root of the chord, not that a lot are.
They are if your in a technical metal band.
Ah, then I understand the displeasure with the given advice. But if the bass players even has to ask...
Ah, then I understand the displeasure with the given advice. But if the bass players even has to ask...
No, My friend from another band I'm in posted on my facebook wall, "Dude, write the bassline to this song, meet me tomorrow." and the guitarist from a different band (who I've had disagreements with in the past) said "dude write your own bass lines, just the root note of the chord" to the Guitarist from the first band.
It was the assumption that all basslines are the root of the chord, not that a lot are.
Oh, haha. If he wasn't just saying that as a generalization, then shame on him. Yeah, your friend just shouldn't listen to him. He should just make up his own stuff. $10 says he wont even notice.
Wait. So you're a bass player, and you play bass for both Band A and Band B? And the guitarist of Band A asked you to write a bassline for a song. Then the guitarist of Band B told the guitarist of Band A to write the bassline himself? Is this correct?
