• Microsoft is giving away Windows 10 to anyone who tests it!
Microsoft's Gabe Aul confirmed this method on Twitter yesterday as part of a new blog post detailing some new changes to the way the company tests Windows 10. "As long as you are running an Insider Preview build and connected with the MSA (Microsoft Account) you used to register, you will receive the Windows 10 final release build and remain activated," says Aul. Microsoft will soon require testers to use a Microsoft Account to receive updated builds, and even when Windows 10 is finalized testers can opt-in and keep receiving future test versions in the coming months. So if you're running Windows XP or Windows Vista and you're looking to get a free copy of Windows 10, simply install the preview now and you'll get the final copy free once it's ready on July 29th.
Source: http://www.theverge.com/2015/6/20/8818383/microsoft-windows-10-free-for-testers This is actually a pretty amazing switch for Microsoft from their previous business model of gouging for every upgrade and version. Now it seems they are just trying to bring everyone to their platform.
Windows 7 was my idea though
i want this omg, so all I have to do is install a preview build over my current windows 7 and the in good? Do pretty much all programs work fine with the preview build of 10? If I install 10 on my laptop I don't use much can I use that key to upgrade my desktop to 10???
When will they activate the mind control function?

The only thing that doesn't work is switching from x86 to x64 or vice versa. That said you should be able to install the preview over your existing system without too many issues (if any). You can roll back too, but a few things may break in the process (like programs you install afterwards or your task bar link to windows explorer, which you'd have to re-pin). I think the registration tray icon and the upgrade process will tell you if there's any software that may stop working, but I'm not entirely sure about the latter.

Things are still being worked on.
If you reserve it from one PC can you install it on other?
If you reserve it from one PC can you install it on other?
I highly doubt it, but you have a year or so after release to get it as far as I know.
What is it with Microsoft avoiding the concept of giving away Windows completely? They've always addressed it as they're serving a specific niche. "Everyone who has Windows 8 or 7 get it free" "Oh, and everyone who's a pirate gets it too." "Hell, if you even test it you'll land a copy on us." It's blatantly obvious Windows 10 is going to be free, why are they avoiding it?

Things are still being worked on.
Eh, I've been running the evaluation build for about a month (currently on 10130) and it's fine, haven't really run into any major problems. Perhaps my experience is abnormal, but at this point where Windows 10 is ~1 month from release, I'd say you're pretty safe if you upgrade now. I mean if this were 3+ months ago it would be a different story, but as of now it's close enough to a final product for me. [editline]20th June 2015[/editline] The worst problem I've encountered is Cortana not working, but honestly who cares.

In any case, when you install it it's going to badger you about getting Microsoft's online products and probably again about uploading your data to their servers like in Windows 8 already. It's still not as bad as a default Ubuntu in that regard though, since it actually asks before activating anything at all.
"Oh, and everyone who's a pirate gets it too."
I don't think this is the case any more, or ever was in that matter. I think someone took some words too literally, but I can't remember fully. [editline]20th June 2015[/editline] Ninja'd
When will they activate the mind control function?
Or the function that makes everyone kill each other ala Kingsman: The Secret Service.
So all I have to do is reinstall the latest build (I am a Insider) and sign into my Microsoft account. Then later you'll get the release build with a Win 10 license key? Edit: How will this work for my brother? He runs Windows 8.1 with a activator (I think it's KMSpico). If he installs Win10 on Virtualbox, he will eventually get the full release with a genuine license key? Then he can reinstall his whole PC with a Win 10 iso and the genuine license key that he got from being a Insider?
yes as long as you sign into a microsoft account with it
So could you log into your Microsoft account on a virtual machine with Windows 10, remove the virtual machine, then when I feel like upgrading to Windows 10 (Which will no doubt be as soon as it's out) - I could log back into that Microsoft account and it'll activate? Or can I use Magical Jellybean Keyfinder and rip the product key from Win10 (If it even has one via this kind of method).

So do we get win10 home or pro for free?

I think Microsoft also mentioned somewhere that the upgrade would only work for the machine the previous system was installed on. What definitely should work is upgrading the cracked Windows to the preview though, which will the automatically update to the full version while signed in. (Unless the activator causes problems, that is.)
Is this just for security fixes or something?
believe it will be home pros are for windows 7 pro/ultimate and 8.1 pro thing only
if i have win7 pro will I get win10 pro?
I still haven't got that fucking little icon yet.
So do we get win10 home or pro for free?
If you have w7 home, you get w10 home, same for pro.
Shazbot it just told me I don't meet system requirements, but my piece of crap little laptop that barely runs windows 7 that it came packaged with can have it EDIT: Gonna see if the ISO works anyway, might be my crappy little GPU
so it's a full version and not an upgrade version right?
so it's a full version and not an upgrade version right?
I don't think they ever said you'll get a key, so until they do I'll assume it's an upgrade license-wise. You can currently install it on a reformatted computer though, since the preview doesn't require a key (other than possibly the one published on their website).
Fuck it, i don't feel like waiting. I'm downloading the "upgrade" now.
I know only two famous men called Gabe. And they are both awesome.
As soon as I found out about this, I immediately installed Windows 10 Insider Preview on my machine. (After backing up all my stuff, of course). Definitely enjoy using it right now. :D

I wonder what will happen if I make a few Microsoft accounts and install TP on VMs with them
