This is sort of a spinoff of the Arizona/Southwest Thread, I'm curious as to see how many facepunchers hail from the south/southeast. Welcome to the south. Contrary to popular belief, we aren't all bible thumping, gay bashing rednecks that love to shoot guns. In this thread we talk about the south, and what states we all live in
What can the south give to you?
Rad ass scenery [t]http://www.mlewallpapers.com/image/Dual-Standard-Screen-3/view/Appalachian-Mountains-I-194.jpg[/t] [t]http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm124/9084/georgia/100_7760-1.jpg[/t] Amazing food [t]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jmKk9AmOQA0/T7pZHNTHc2I/AAAAAAAAEBs/ItpeRvBodkI/s1600/biscuits.jpg[/t] [t]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A2tgZRZUc_g/UHsGyZ0TLdI/AAAAAAAAMAc/UnI_QORHxro/s1600/chicken+and+dumplings+bowl.JPG[/t]
What states constitute the south?

Virginia
[t]http://www.wyndham.com/property/RICVC/Images/26354_x1.jpg[/t] Eight presidents lived here, Eight! I've visited the south a few times and the thing that struck me the most is how...touchy/feely people are down there. Idk how to properly describe it but people making small talk at the supermarkets and such will put their hands on your shoulders or pat you on the back and stuff I mean I'm a masshole yankee from the bitter northeast so I guess we really ARE not as friendly
I live in Virginia. I guess it's okay, it's just that there's a lot of racist rednecks here. This one dude I know can't go a day without saying something about how black people are gross.

What state were you in?
There is an extreme lack of south Missouri in this thread
My bad. I'm writing a paper, I'll add it when I'm done.
Isn't West Virginia part of the south? Anyhow, I did a lot of traveling around the south seeing family over the last couple of summers, and after living in the desert for so long, a summer in the south takes it's toll. It's pretty damn humid down there, but I like how a lot of people seem friendly in smaller areas. I lost my southern accent a LONG time ago, so hearing others with it is very odd after living in this part of the U.S for so long. Whenever I visit during the summer to see family, I typically go to: West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
Updated the OP with more of the southern states.
Even thought I live in Finland, ever since like 10 years ago, I've had some weird liking to the southern US states. The nature and environment there is so special, if I ever get the chance I'm going to visit it. And there's just something about those American endless crop fields that just has a special place in my heart.
601 REPRESENT [editline]28th February 2013[/editline] realtalk the south has some of the greatest food on earth
Ah, nice seeing WV up there now. I was born and raised for a small time in Charleston, the capital of WV. The state is beautiful in terms of scenery, but the place is falling apart, or is just very ghetto in some areas. here's a picture i took down there last summer, as you can see, the power-lines are literally ran into the dirt, or they're falling over. i've seen more people living in mobile homes then i do in a house, there was actually a wild horde of chickens being lead by a rooster as you see in the picture in that small neighborhood, people just don't seem to really give a shit about what's going on down there. nevertheless, as i stated, the scenery is beautiful. a shot of my brother during the sunset up on our family farm. just goes to show how nice the state can look in non-urban areas.

Anyways, I'm living in the great state of Tennessee, home of silly anti homosexual laws and republicans. Can't wait to get out of here and join the navy.

Virginian born and raised. Love me some of dat fried ery' thang.
Georgian reporting in, and Georgia has way more than just peaches. Its the home of Coca-Cola, and a prime area for growing peanuts. [sp]Also Jimmy Carter but we don't talk about him round here[/sp] Also, to really qualify as being part of "The South" you have to have joined the Confederacy in the Civil War. Sorry Maryland and West Virginia, but that means yall're out of the club.
I live in North Carolina. And the stereotype about the people here being homophobic, racist, shotgun toting rednecks is 100% true. I've lived here for my entire life. Take the term "southern hospitality" as strongly as you want, but it'll be misleading. We have one of the worst education systems in the country, people have been known to get kicked out of congress for simply being an atheist, and I've taken a lot of shit for simply disagreeing with the people here. You get can't openly vote democratically with out being called a "Queer-O-Sexual Lover" Trust me. Where ever you are in the world, it's got more "hospitality" than North Carolina.
Please remove West Virginia from the OP, they are dirty yankees and do not count as true Southerners. [editline]28th February 2013[/editline] Also, Virginian, well, born in Scotland. I like it here, good food, nice people, beautiful state.
Georgia, here. What's goin' on.
I currently live in Ft. Campbell, which is split by the border between Kentucky and Tennessee. Hopkinsville, KY is a bit down the road, whereas Clarksville, TN, is right outside the gate. Nothing really to do in either place. Nashville is where it is at.
Florida Fag representin'. Have an alligator.

Hatfield & McCoy style, son.
I know that technically the U.S. Census Bureau considers Maryland part of the south, but honestly, do they belong there at all? (Despite my avatar and opinion, I am not from Maryland.)
I just googled a map of 'Southern US States' and Maryland was on there so I guess you could classify it as a southern state.
you lookin' for some trouble, boy?
[t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2a/Battle_flag_of_the_US_Confederacy.svg/600px-Battle_flag_of_the_US_Confederacy.svg.png[/t] Theres 13 stars on this here flag, and ain't none of em fer West Virginia or Maryland.
you lookin' for some trouble, boy?
Ya want to say that to me face, ya bloody yank!
I just googled a map of 'Southern US States' and Maryland was on there so I guess you could classify it as a southern state.
I just said that technically it's considered a southern state by the U.S. Census Bureau, but honestly, its politics are pretty northern and its geography is hardly southern
