FUCK YES Literally my favorite game series of all time.
Fuck yeah, a masterpiece. They have to bring the first two to Steam now, as well!
Oh fuck yeah!
I really hope the humble android bundle updates itself with a metal slug 3 key.
i hope they put the rest on there including all the ones that were on psp and stuff
how much is it.?
I want it.
This is great news. The online co-op makes it worth the buy.
I'd worry about the price since I could just get a ROM but it has online coop, that's easily worth some money

The beautiful spritework has let this one age gracefully
I hope the entire anthology and 7 come too. Online co-op is going to be hard to pass, but I already own the Anthology (but not 7). I'd willingly pay for the whole series as just online-capable ports for ~$50 on Steam, though 3 by itself seems a bit odd. I assume that the other titles will come, too.
The beautiful spritework has let this one age gracefully
unless your game looks like complete garbage, sprites usually age pretty well better than n64/ps1/any early 3d games anyway
I am sold, now wheres the rest
Aw shit. Metal Slug was one of the best series I've ever played. I spent so much money playing these things arcades.
unless your game looks like complete garbage, sprites usually age pretty well better than n64/ps1/any early 3d games anyway
eh, that's arguable. Games like Crash Bandicoot and Metal Gear Solid kept a defined aesthetic, because the developers knew the hardware limitations and chose to work with them (ie making models with low-poly in mind, creating textures keeping the low-resolution in mind). Games that tried to disguise those limitations (ie doing shit like having cropped flat photographs for face textures for "realism") look like ass today.
unless your game looks like complete garbage, sprites usually age pretty well better than n64/ps1/any early 3d games anyway
Metal slug has always been a benchmark for sprites to me
Still have my copy of Metal Slug Anthology on PS2, been too long since I've played it though.
Here's some random shot of the game.
Oh man metal slug addiction is coming back. I was just about to buy the complete collection for my Vita too!
You can already play most of the Metal Slugs online on Supercade. It looks like the Steam version is being made by DotEmu which apparently didn't make good phone ports of the series.
This honestly isn't really that spectacular. It's probably going to be like all of the other old game ports by using some poor quality generic emulator (because they can't license the good ones) tossed in a wrapper to streamline the UI. I wouldn't be surprised if the netplay came from the Kaillera client or something similar. You can get a much better experience just using MAME or one of the other better emulators, and you get way more features than you would on a release like this. I actually prefer playing it on the original arcade cabinet with a CRT monitor. Keyboards and LCD monitors don't do it justice. If they had redone all of the graphics in HD (maybe using one of those side scrolling 3D engines) and made a native PC port, it might be worth getting.
If we're porting Neo-Geo games, can we get motherfucking WINDJAMMERS with some online play?
Just port the Anthology, please.

Will try Online mode with a friend and report back.
