To be honest, I thought this movie would never be made.
Cameron is just producing now. Robert Rodriguez is directing.
Why does she have giant eyes but no other robot does?
Do they really have to make her eyes big?
The uncanny valley is so god damn strong on her eyes

He is still getting some billing besides producing still though, as seen in the Youtube description:

I feel like that might just be a marketing ploy, but the series is very special to Cameron since he's been sitting on the rights for it for years. He would probably direct it himself if he wasn't so busy with the Avatar sequels.
I get the feeling that the eyes are a big middle finger to everyone who complained about character portrayals in anime adaptations this year.
Not Polar express CGI...

yea cause he's also the co-writer for the screenplay

Cyborgs ranging from 4ft to 35ft doing kung fu moves would be a bit hard with practical effects
Are they intentionally going for uncanny valley with her eyes, because if it's deliberate that's actually kinda neat.
Has anyone actually read the manga this is based on? Heard of it before but I've never read it, curious if Cameron and co's got a solid base to adapt to film.
when she had a really angry expression, the large eyes didn't mesh well at ALL with the eyebrows looking like they're still in the same relative position, feels like a bit could be fixed with more balance in the whole brow area. Small anime mouth isn't working for me either
overall looks like it could shape up to be a fun movie but we're already two flicks into the 'what makes one human?' cyberpunk classic action reboots so it may be a bit too late to the party

i think the uncanny valley fits since the exterior is all cyborg
Super R-rated story made into PG13
It's gonna suck.

She has amnesia, but she fell to earth from orbit, hence the shot of her sitting in a garbage heap. Uncanny valley is there because like most cyborgs in BAA she is just a brain attached to artificial organs, the face is artificial.

I know it's not an original story, but I wanted to make this anyway.
Regardless of the reasoning being that she is a cyborg, the huge eye thing still is a terrible design choice, and the cgi looks fake.

people are still going on about unfinished cgi in early trailers?
A mediocre manga gets turned into a really, really bad movie.
Girl looks like one of those content aware scaling memes.

I would be totally uninterested if not for Robert Rodriguez, but I do wish he'd go back to some more insane R-rated movies.
Gollum: Battle Angel.
Her eyes are so off putting.
I don't know if that was meant to be the point or not?
So this was an anime before?

As you can see in the trailer, her father figure basically has made her his waifu. So it kind of makes sense.
also the manga is basically "Here's my OC Alita, she's the fucking best and everyone loves her".
Doesn't make it not creepy though.
Creepy IS a big thing in the manga, however. Just... everything except Alita is supposed to be creepy and gritty.
Instead we have a bright and sunny dystopia where a bunch of normal humans wearing jeans and tshirts are wandering around, with the rare cyborg.
If any cyberpunk movie goes with the dark and gritty aesthetic, it should be this one.

Wait, is it really going to be PG13?
Shit.
There goes half the charm.
And Motorball.
And some major villains.

He wrote the script, which is why I'll be giving this one a skip.

Where does it say it is going to be PG-13?
