Amazon turned the S train into the SS train, and some straphangers are pissed. The Man in the High Castle, an Amazon-produced show set in an alternate reality — the Axis won World War II and rules most of the United States — launched its first season Nov. 20. As part of the promotional campaign for the Web-only program, Amazon decorated the 42nd Street shuttle running between Times Square and Grand Central with Nazi regalia. Train seats on one side of the subway car feature the stylized fascist version of the Reichsadler (Imperial Eagle) prominently used in Hitler-era Germany, albeit with the swastika replaced by an Iron Cross. On the other side, the Rising Sun Flag, often associated with Japanese military forces during the same period, is displayed.
http://mic.com/articles/129092/amazons-nazi-themed-ad-campaign-for-the-man-in-the-high-castle-causes-furor-on-social-media?utm_source=policymicTBLR&utm_medium=main&utm_campaign=social#.7jLT5Tafv
okay, you gotta wonder what they were thinking on this one. i thought this would be someone spray painting a swastika on a train, but jesus
This isn't a case of people being too sensitive. I like the show but any type of Nazi imagery in a highly visible public place is a very shaky subject, the marketing team made a pretty poor choice.
Ohhh shit you should have at least mentioned Man in the High Castle on the adverts...
I get that people are mad, and I don't think it's wrong of people who lived through WWII to be offended by this. However, this is an art piece that will eventually be taken down, it fits the theme, and they did make a point of removing the swastika.
This couldn't have been cheap either, how do you end up actually carrying out such a bad idea and expensive idea?
Well, I was about to watch the show, saw this thread, now something is telling me to go watch it :v:
I guess there's no such thing as bad Publicity, I didn't even know about the show but now i'm kind of interested.

Guess I need to sit and watch it, I liked the pilot and I get it free with Prime, so I might as well.
I guess there's no such thing as bad Publicity, I didn't even know about the show but now i'm kind of interested.
I watch the first season of the show they mention. I would highly recommend.
The show is pretty good. It's got some hanky bits in terms of accuracy/portrayal of the Nazis/the Japanese, but the pilot has some moments that just suck you in. The atmosphere is good too, lots of detail added to everything they can.
Ohhh shit you should have at least mentioned Man in the High Castle on the adverts...
The posters at the car door entrance have adverts of The man in the High castle. I'm enjoying the show interesting alternative history.
Also, props to the OP for trying to subtly put Fuhrer in the title.
Also, props to the OP for trying to subtly put Fuhrer in the title.
This kind of publicity only Furhers the shows popularity.
I just hope that Man in the High Castle grows enough interest in the genre to have a How Few Remain miniseries. HFR is really, really good and would feed into all sorts of issues that we have today
I dunno I think it looks pretty cool
I think the advertisement was a bit tone-deaf, but then again Man in the High Castle is kind of an obscure book and the show is featured in a kind of obscure way via Amazon. So maybe it's a good thing that they did something weird and shocking, but not directly offensive.
Wow, I came in here expecting a shit swastika but honestly that's uh... I mean, I love the shock value implicit in the imagery present in things related to The Man in the High Castle but to plaster it on a piece of public transit without context is a bit more than just a little faux pas.

By far it is the best alternate history novel I've read.

Well the show IS getting publicity I suppose.
Those aren't even swastikas in that train. And I would argue that the show uses more swastikas around Germany's areas than real life Nazi Germany did :v: It's like every single scene in the Greater German Reich had to remind you that the Nazis were in charge. Not that I minded it, though.
This series premise is ridiculous but it seems like something that could easily get big.
controversy results in higher publicity
Raising Heil
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh. Some dumbass was probably like "nah if there aren't any swastikas it's k"
This series premise is ridiculous
How so?
The amount of buzzwords in that sentence made me wonder if I was reading Buzzfeed...
can you point to the buzzwords in that sentence?
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh. Some dumbass was probably like "nah if there aren't any swastikas it's k"
And thats completely fine, the only thing that resembles anything nazi is the fact that it has an eagle on it which isnt exactly reserved for nazis, like im surprised anyone able to be ~offended~ by this even recognized that much

The only difference is there's an iron cross where a swastika would usually be
