Hello fellow Facepunchers. Now as some of you may know, some countries out there were and are under a dictatorship regime. Under these regimes some revolutionary movements tend to rise up and one of the main weapons against those regimes has been music and through the subtleties inside the lyrics. Now just to get things clear. This topic isn't about posting this neo-revolutionary crap music about the economic crysis or how your dad doesn't understand you so you rage against the world, and that bullshit. The music you post here MUST have a political or historical context! Since today we're celebrating the 25th of April here in Portugal (The end of the fascist regime in August, 1974). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnation_Revolution, I decided I posted some music from the artists of that time to show you. Here goes: This one's Priest Francisco Fanhais, a priest who openly spoke against the regime in his sermons. He was an artist too and a big fan of the Poet Sophia de Mello Breynner, who he gets his lyrics from. I'll translate the lyrics as best I can: Because others wear masks and you don't Because others use their virtue To buy what has no forgiveness Because others are afraid but you don't Because others are whitewashed tombs Where the rot sprouts quietly. Because others stay silent and you don't. Because others are bought and sold And his gestures always give dividend. Because others are skilled but you're not. Because others will walk through shaded shelters And you are going hand in hand with the danger. Because others are calculating and you're not. Lyrics by: Sophia de Mello Breynner I'll just leave this one for now to see how the thread develops.

During world war 2, this was the most widespread song in the french resistance. Epic, that is the right word to describe it. And it was even reinterpreted by the group Zebda! Groovy and patriotic.
