Hello im posting this thread in hope that there are some other welders and metal workers among Facepunch. Here is my WIP of my Fire-pit Ive been working on a fire pit project for my shop class in school for about 3 weeks now. The dimensions are 5'x5'ft and it stands about 2'ft Tall. Not sure of the exact weight but its struggle for two people to carry. Everything was done in shop using a 90 amp Lincoln Arc-welder, circular ban saw, and a Cnc plasma tech table for the CAT logos. When its completed it will have wheels, diamond plate, and many other custom fabrications. I will post more pics as it comes along: "Jan/14/2011" Sorry for the fuzz my camera on my cell isnt that great. I actually love welding.. I can stick weld but that's all I got to learn. It's one of those things that are good to know for the future.

Do you weld in school or at home?
My dad has the equipment for oxy-acetyline, MIG and stick welding. I've used the oxy-acetyline torch once, years ago.
My Uncle was the Vice-President for the Iron Workers Union, but now he's retired and lives off a pension (I think it was $70,000 a year).
My dad has the equipment for oxy-acetyline, MIG and stick welding. Welding is one of my favorite things todo and there is nothing like the feeling of getting a perfect weld hah
I've got a decent MIG welder. I love that thing.

Not much room for a welder in a military dorm but then again.. I don't really need to weld either :P. But if I need to I can!
We do this stuff at my Vo-Tech High School, WE get both High school and College credits depending on what your put in, I chose welding and I'm loving it, Right now I'm working on overhead bevels and I got a few job offers because people from the local area stop by and look at what we are up to and see how we are doing. As of right now, I'm a welder doing vertical MiG welding on playground equipment (I know its childish, but, how many people can say "I work at UltraPlay :smug: ") But, making $30 a hour after school for 5 hours is a damn good job. Ya I know this is a fast edit, But the welding we do out there is: Dual Shield TiG Self Shield Stick Mig Brazing Acetylene Welding Pipe Fitting Bevels

Lol^
Welding is probably the only thing like this I haven't done. I'm too scared of electricity to try it.
What grade are you in? (curiosity)
Senior In High school.
Welding is probably the only thing like this I haven't done. I'm too scared of electricity to try it.
You haven't done me either. :c In topic: I'd love to try welding, but around here we don't have Shop Class. (Canadurr)
Welding is probably the only thing like this I haven't done. I highly suggest you give it a chance sometime!
My college offers some classes, I may take one welding course to see if I can make a career out of it if I don't make it as an officer.
My college offers some classes, I may take one welding course to see if I can make a career out of it if I don't make it as an officer.
You can make good money$ welding. If you wanna make serious money take some under water welding classes, They make serious bank!

(You press your gas pedal and you point it at your filler rod and you get like, a mini lightning storm going on. I suggest trying just for the looks. I'll PM you on how to shock people if you want.
i've had a go, always end up burning a fucking hole through the metal though. it might be easier with one of the masks that darken when they detect the light. that was with an arc welder, what i presume you're calling a stick welder.

If you burn wholes use less volts! I do own a auto darkening helmet and it helps a ton.
I don't really know if I am allowed to do welding. My dad knows how to weld, so I suppose I could ask him. I'm not sure what I would make, but I think it would be something like a... hmmm. Like a base for a little homemade bunker? Like for airsoft wars or something. I'm not sure. Don't think I would get permission for that anyways. I just love making stuff

[MSDS - Material Specification Data Sheet] But yeah, what kontra said, Make sure you play around with your settings until your comfortable with it and make sure you move at a steady pace so you dont continue burning the holes in metal. What grade you in as well kontra (curious as well)
I'm not a welder and i haven't done much welding myself actually. But im a designer at a steel works company locally and its my responsability to get shit plasma'd and get people to fabricate them. Just for shits and giggles i cut myself this badboy out from 10mm steel, very comfy, still haven't filed the edges on the bad side or rounded the corners. Soon i will start a job on designing 1:1 scale replica of this, let me know if you want to follow on the process of the design. Reason i haven't started yet is because i still don't have the scale model to use for reference.

Well, I'm surprised that your boss hasn't said anything about your steel knuckles and good luck on that model, I'll help you out if you are willing. The only think we've made out at my school is pieces and other things for companies and the auto body/mechanic shop class next to us...

I also want to make something like that. I want to make this: Or more like this:
I really wanna learn how to weld..
My father took a woodshop, and welding class when he was in high-school. It's a different high-school mind you, but in mine the closest thing we have to woodshop is stagecraft. Also no welding.
