With no trash can or recycling bin near seats at stadiums, it seems normal for fans at sporting events to defile the floor under their seats with broken peanut shells, spilled beer, empty bags of nachos and the pickle they didn’t want to touch in their burger. However, Japanese fans at the World Cup think otherwise. After seeing their team blow a lead and lose to Ivory Coast, 2-1, fans of Japan were seen picking up trash after the game.

No surprise, I think Japan is like the only country that cleans up after themselves. They're known for "being clean". I personally hate it when people leave their trash around after events like these, and I clean up after myself too. Even if there's no trashcans I bring it back home to throw it away.
I always feel bad for leaving trash in stadiums, but there are never any trash cans anywhere. I try not to spill stuff anyway, so the custodians don't have to sweep it up.
I love this. I use to work in the fast food industry and know what it's like to deal barbarians who don't clean up after themselves. I respect a culture that values cleanliness.

I really don't understand how people can just leave trash lying around, I live by a stadium and they always make a mess whenever there's a match, it's no effort at all to hold onto things for a bit.
My mother is Japanese and was telling me that when she was little the kids were taught to even keep the shavings of their rubbers and throw them away rather than just discard them by brushing them off.
What a lovely group of fans.
Waiting for cracked's article telling me that this news' fake
That's some pretty respectable conduct on Japan's end considering their team lost. I know people who would have done worse than not pick up their trash if their team lost, good on Japan.
They're taking away the custodian's job!

I don't understand how people can riot over sports, but I guess when you get a group of angry drunk people together bad things are bound to happen.

Seriously it seems most of the major riots in Canadian history have been sports related. Pretty embarrassing.

People have done worse when their teams win
Some sports fans are just brain-dead
Weren't there a few sports related riots even when their team won
Or maybe i'm thinking of people trashing their own town when their team lost, either way it's stupid
This diametrically juxtaposes Britain's response.

I had a much different image in my head before I realized you meant a pencil eraser.

Any time an LA team wins a championship there's pretty much a riot
That's the Japan mentality. When I went to Japan it was very difficult to find a bin in public (there were way more vending machines around then bins) so you have to hold onto your rubbish. You would think that it means people would chuck their rubbish on the ground, but no one did it was very confusing. It's a good mentality.
England should outsource the job of it's football fans to the Japanese

Every household also seperates flammable trash, inflammable trash, battery trash, recyclables, etc
It was funny when I visited family over there, I wanted to throw away a simple candy wrapper, I had to ask which bin in which room and whether the item was supposed to be a recyclable/organic waste/etc
Japan is one of the cleanest country I been to (with the exception of Tokyo and other giant mainstream cities like Osaka in comparison to smaller cities like Hakata, Kyoto, etc)
The other cleanest country I been to is Finland.

Did anyone else misread that?
Is it just me, or most japanese people are very nice people?

[dey tuk mah jerb joke]
:v:
I don't ever leave trash in stadiums so this is "meh" to me.
"Oh look, it's people on par with their cleanliness."

I hate this when in train stations and airports etc, I know the "correct" thing to do is just leave it somewhere out of the way to be cleaned up by a cleaner but I hate doing that. I am much happier to carry whatever it is I'm trying to dispose of till I find a bin outside of where I am.
I worked 5 years in a cinema, so I know what it's like to clean up after other people, since then, I either hold on to my rubbish till I find a bin to dispose of it or when leaving a venue/cinema etc I carry a plastic bag and put it all in there, tie it up and then find the nearest bin.
The Japanese are... different. After the massive earthquake and Tsunami they experienced, people were making neat lines outside of stores and distribution stations to get the supplies they needed. There was no fighting, no looting, no bullshit. At least, none that I remember reading about.
There's literally no other country in the world that has that particular quality.

I'd suppose they'd see no point in trying to fight and attempt to rescue the normality they liked.

The Yakuza were actually some of the first on the scene to help hand out food and start donating money to relief shelters and such.
