Sheriff’s detectives arrested a known sex offender in downtown San Luis Obispo on Wednesday afternoon as he logged on to Facebook at the Apple Store on Higuera Street.
Robert Nicholas McGuire, 35, is being held without bail at the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of violating his probation.
The detectives, including members of the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement team, spotted McGuire downtown. One of them recognized McGuire from a previous child pornography case, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.
McGuire began to log on to the Internet from a display computer, the Sheriff’s Department wrote. At the same time, a detective went to the computer next to McGuire and logged on to the Megan’s Law website.
He retrieved information “that clearly indicated McGuire was prohibited from using the Internet,” the department said.
Officers took McGuire into custody after he left the store.

Why would you log into Facebook from a display computer.
Permabanning someone from the Internet for watching child porn is stupid.

"clearly prohibited from using the internet"
:psyduck:
Its like not being able to use a telephone or watch tv
That would be awkward being him and seeing the guy next to you log into the Megan's Law website
(User has been permabanned with the following reason "cp")
Sex offender or not how can they prohibit him from the internet?
It wasn't a permanent ban from the internet. And honestly, why would a 35 year old need to watch child porn? He obviously knew that there would be consequences before he got involved with that stuff.

Why, you worried?
It's illegal and disgusting and has implications on many lives.
You should actually be ashamed for saying that.

How do you know it's permanent? Could just be while he's on parole like the article seems to indicate.
I just think the severity of the punishments for child porn and the attention it gets over other crimes is a bit much.
I mean it's a horrible and disgusting thing, but there are plenty of other horrible and disgusting things out there that we seem to barely care about.

I'm trying to come up with a witty joke since it's coming from a moderator, but I can't :saddowns:

you got me; im totally worried
Banning someone from the internet temporarily even, is not a good type of punishment as it leaves a large grey area for what is defined as 'internet' (is he just banned from browsing websites or the internet in it's entirety?) and the internet may be accidentally utilized by people prohibited from using it, especially people who have very little knowledge on how it works.
1 more strike and its jail for life.
