I finally got a MIDI keyboard (MAudio Oxygen 49) which was only $160. It has a lot of midi controls, so I've assigned the midi sliders to the mixer channels which let me adjust my levels pretty awesomely. This is the first tune I've my keyboard in. sounds really cool. But the drums are way too loud and the bass is too weak imo.
Yeah I agree with the drums being too loud. By weak bass you mean melodically or it's not loud enough because it's hitting some low sub notes pretty loudly.
not loud enough. I guess it's my speakers then.
I did some investigating by cross checking across several mediums and the bass seems to come through find even on my crappy cellphone headphones. It may be that your speakers aren't able to produce an accurate representation of sounds in the low/sub range, which reminds me do you have a sub?
Not a separate sub but I got some big speakers with some bass in them. I mean I can hear the bass in your song but it's not very loud. If I listen to songs like Sub Focus - Last Jungle for example I hear the low end bass really well. Anyways a good way to get your tune to sound good on as many systems as possible would be to listen to some other song made by some professional producer and compare the volume of the different stems.
Wow this is a pretty sick tune.
I don't think the drums are too loud, but the bass is lower in volume compared to the drums I dunno if you're aiming for a low sub bass or a more high mid bass or something, but either way you should just turn the bass volume up. Maybe you can side chain the bass with the kick and snare or something as well.
this is fucking top notch. as said the bass is slighty weak, but a genuinely good bit of liquid dnb. fucking love it mate, just need some slight mastering work.
Thanks for the awesome feedback everyone! I've done more work on it but I still need to go back and maybe side-chain the bassline to the kick. The drums may be a tad overpowering still. Good news though, it's being signed :)
I'd totally play Need for Speed to this. Nice euro-house feel to it
Haha, it'd be sweet if it got in a game.
That electric pianoish sound sounds so sweet
You mean the rhodes or that violin/string sound?
Pretty much what the others said. I have a sub, and I would have to turn the volume on the sub all the way up, you should turn the bass up by atleast 30% The bass sounds really weak on the loudest volume :-/ I don't feel that the drums are to loud really, but I would definitely turn the bass up by 30% Or wait.. Turn everything except the drums up by 30% :)
You mean the rhodes or that violin/string sound?
Guess it's the rhodes. It's not a string/violin sound
I did the rhodes with a VST called Lounge Lizard which is specifically designed for rhodes :)
Lounge Lizard is one of my favourite VST's, good work!
Is Lounge Lizard free? [editline]25th January 2011[/editline] Because I've found it really hard to make rhodes sounds in Massive :v:
