Protests against Donald Trump broke out in California's Bay Area late on Tuesday after the Republican candidate won the U.S. presidential election, a Reuters witness and local media reported. Demonstrators set fire to a likeness of Trump, smashed store front windows and set garbage and tires on fire in downtown Oakland, across the bay from San Francisco. A few miles away, University of California, Berkeley students protested on campus. A demonstration also unfolded at the University of California, Davis where students blocked streets as they marched and chanted anti-Trump slogans and "You are not America, we are America," according to Twitter posts.
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-protests-idUSKBN1341RY [editline]9th November 2016[/editline] Lol surprise surprise
I don't like him as much as the next guy, but come on.
Of course it's California.
burning effigies is a bit much
And so sprouteth the seeds of dissent, unto this dying earth doth yon blazing leaves fall.
Of course it's Berkeley students.
fix'd
Feels like an inevitability with this election.
burning effigies is a bit much
It's to stop the police players from invading. [sp]dark souls[/sp]
People have right to feel disappointed and angry, but this isn't the right way to express it. Demonstrating is good, but vandalism is not. Here's hoping nobody gets seriously hurt.
It begins...
I'm willing to bet a good chunk of them barely even know anything about this election.
What they should be burning is Florida.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time people started burning effigies of somebody in a show of defiance, the person in question had tried to blow up a building. The fact that this feels more like an expected outcome rather than a shocking turn of events says even more. Hell, call me a cynic, but burning effigies and breaking shit might be mild compared to what else could be on the way. I cant remember there ever being this much outcry over a presidential election.
Good. A revolt is needed. This election has been utter shit and it ended even worse.
Good. A revolt is needed. This election has been utter shit and it ended even worse.
Hell yeah let's riot because we don't get our own way!
The best thing to do for the country and pretty much everyone's future is point out these people. They might turn into something worse then the tea party. I don't feel as scared of republicans as what these people can do, and they now feel like they have nothing left to lose. These people don't understand the phrase, "don't become the very thing you hate". On the bright side cali now has Pot.

Regardless of whether you think these are voilent, dangerous people reacting improperly, or justifiably angry revolutionaries doing what's right, the mere fact this is happening at all speaks volumes about what a shitshow this election was.
What a bunch of babies. These people are grown adults and are throwing tantrums like children. If you have a problem protest, don't destroy shit. Especially when that shit isn't yours.
Let's please not be violent and get anyone harmed, OK? Awful, just awful.
I'm willing to bet a good chunk of them barely even know anything about this election.
Many of them probably didn't even vote. Hell I reckon that's how Trump managed to win. A lot of the Clinton supporters probably saw how Clinton was smashing Trump in poll after poll, so they figured 'why should I bother wait in line to vote for Clinton if she's going to win anyways' - and there we have a repeat of the same mistake that millenials made in the Brexit.
It isn't all that surprising, there's always a riot now days. There were riots after the world series, and that was far less controversial. I wonder how many more will pop up over the coming weeks.
Oh my god don't do this, please. Things are awful, but rioting and hurting others is detestable behaviour, that's not how you make a bad situation better.
Good. A revolt is needed. This election has been utter shit and it ended even worse.
in an alternate universe Clinton wins, Trump supporters do the same shit and you post a post calling them redneck retards
We just elected a sociopath into power. Rioting is an understandable reaction.
in an alternate universe Clinton wins, Trump supporters do the same shit and you post a post calling them redneck retards
Yeah, I would. The difference is these riots are fueled by current and impending injustice. Trumpanzee riots would be fueled by propaganda and lies of "rigged elections".
We just elected a sociopath into power. Rioting is an understandable reaction.
Trump is a narcissistic buffoon. The sociopath you are thinking of must be Hillary.

I see bigger risk in riots that may expand. That is especially dangerous now that trumpets have been told over last month to keep vigil, warned about rigged polls and so on. Some private person getting an idea of acting against these riots with gun would be very bad indeed. Now that the whole government apparatus is stacked against them, there's not much they can do in the next four years. So don't infantilize them while dismissing their problems if they don't concern you directly.
It's the perfect time for some good old street brawls and stone throwing.
