What are some of your own lyrics that you are proud to say you wrote? For example, I'm beginning in writing rap lyrics with my friend as a hobby project. Don't take this as a personal attack but it's abysmal. If you're gonna try and write nice lyrics, even just as a hobby, I suggest you give MF Doom and Immortal Technique a listen. Other Facepunchers may be able to give even better suggestions. However, keeping the thread on track, here's a few verses of a WIP cryptic song (-- indicates a pause):
Envision silent dawns of black and red-- And emptied cognac bottles scattered on a crimson bed. Within my head-- Scenes and situations play although the mind is dead. The humble shape here in my arms, so safe is she from long gone harm, though demons of the stereotype conspire to break her youthful charm. Bespectacled, in surreal care, defined by her soul-soothing stare, and Pyrrhic ways on frequent days, the taste of surfaces so bare. / Envision darker dusks of black and blue-- Enjoyable things for pseudokings, another gift from you. A love so true-- Twisted situations play, it's all we ever do. The humble shape that straddles on takes care of me with lustful harm, within four walls the tension falls and leads the way to breathless calm, when in the arms we both play dead, no things to say, ponder instead, two statues tethered to the red, our pedestal a crimson bed / Envision blinding suns, six-sided, green-- She wanders 'bout, within, without, so raw yet so pristine. What has been seen-- --inside the mind of girls so kind: reality or dream. The humble shape in prisons lost, with rooms of cold and beams of rust, she doesn't mind, she knows she must... -- The humble shape now stands so tall, she answers some perdition's call, the bane is flowing through her veins: she reigns, beyond death, over all
It'd have a rather sinister tone and be sung over a dark, slow track, not unlike Massive Attack's Group Four. EDIT: Oh, I also once wrote these lyrics about the legend of Icarus:
In times of Gods and magistrates, in times of myths and men, there was a boy, Icarus, longed to be free once again. Father, daedalean-minded, brilliant he was quite. He crafted wings of wax and strings, and feathers to take flight. Daedalus, he warned his son, "Fly neither low, nor high! For chilling sea and burning sun, they vowed to take your life!" And so they left Minos' spire, and soared away from Crete, above the waves, below the clouds, so freedom they could meet. Icarus trailed his father, sense of wonder turned him blind, he fell in love with Maiden Sol, obsession filled his mind. The boy ascended, father cried, but blissf'ly unaware, Icarus, he took no more care, glided up through the air. The beauty of the Golden Maid, the warmth of her embrace, led poor Icarus far too close, for he gave it no space. And so the wings his father built, despite his expertise, they fell apart, Icarus plunged and died in hungry seas.
Eh. Why not.
We don't like ourselves. Mirrors are our enemies, 'cause in them we see the face of who we really are what we're becoming So we lose ourselves Into strands of black Throw ourselves into little phrases tick a tac Our thumbs become our minds The screen our mouth and we can't help but speaking, even though our words have no meaning And we hate ourselves For hiding behind lines of text Letting ourselves only be seen from the mirrors of our screens Throw ourselves from balconies into the streets. Let the ground absorb us, please don't ignore us It's this world you see Everything's connected and we've elected to fire thoughts into outer space with no protection Let our minds ricochet off of satellites in the hopes that we might get seen by others that know our troubles, maybe they can help us through our struggles But we don't know ourselves And without starting we have tried departing from earth and leaving but time is fleeting and in this moment we've lost our footing the world's receding sanity is screaming past and the ground is coming fast
Blow, blow, blow your goat Gently 'till it creams Merrily, merrily, merrily, merilly Hair gets in your teeth
