North Korea has launched an estimated 1 million propaganda leaflets by balloon into South Korea amid increased tension between the rivals following the North's recent nuclear test, Seoul officials said Monday.
A Cold War-style standoff flared since the North's claim on Jan. 6 that it had tested a hydrogen bomb. South Korea resumed blasting anti-Pyongyang propaganda broadcasts and K-pop songs from border loudspeakers. North Korea quickly responded by restarting its own border broadcasts and floating the balloons over the border carrying anti-South leaflets, according to Seoul officials.
Seoul's Defense Ministry said Monday the North's military has been sending the balloons on a near-daily basis. Spokesman Kim Min-seok said the leaflets have reached Seoul in addition to areas close to the border.
Wonder what they say.
Better leaflets than bombs.
I find this funny because this is something that's been done to NK a lot, but it's not going to work on SK because it's not exposing secrets that people have heard of but aren't allowed to talk about (that's why it works on NK). There's too much freedom of information in SK for this type of propaganda to be effective.

Plus when your quality of life is high you don't give much of a shit about propaganda.
"Come to North Korea! We've got colour-TV!"
For anyone curious in what they say and look like.

(I HAD ALL OF THEM AND ALL FORMATTED BUT NEVERMIND)
Oh for _fuck's_ sake
I guess the message is aimed more towards America rather then South Korea considering what the translations read, but my only question is why bother make a million of these, when they could have just said it once? Seems kinda, I dunno, overboard a bit?

The Nork's leaflets seem far less sophisticated. There was a post in a previous thread in the subject describing how the South's broadcasts rather cleverly used things like accurate weather forecasts to gain the trust of NK border troops, then showing information about world events whose coverage was partially omitted or twisted in the North, playing K-pop stuff that proves to be popular there etc., and from there launching into attacks on the Kim regime.
That feel when you have to deploy shittons of shitty empty threat leaflets but in reality you think the k-pop is pretty good.

Nah the idea is make shittons, spread them far and wide, try and get public support.
Doesn't make it any shittier of an attempt, but that was the idea.
They should just get a giant fan and blow the back across the boarder :v:
... I kind of want one.
the beauty of NK propaganda leaflets essentially boiling down to "STOP PROPAGANDIZING AT US! WE DON'T MAKE EMPTY THREATS! WE'LL REALLY DO IT THIS TIME!"
Whenever North Korea makes a threat, it sounds more like they have a thing for kicking dogs than actually appearing scary.
love how the soldiers in the leaflets look like they're straight from the 70s

North Korea is the angsty emo teen of the world.
it's always quite interesting when shit goes down between north and south korea because after every issue that passes between them, the chance of war builds even higher. even if north korea keeps making empty threats, they'll probably do something that's worth retaliation from south korea some day

I was expecting them to try and convince the South that the NK wasn't so bad.
I should of known it would boil down to "SHUT UP OR ELSE"

There were many insults levied at the current SK leader, Park Geun-Hye. She's taken a hardline approach with NK that aligns pretty closely to US's interests, which makes her a prime target for NK to insult.

What surprises me most is the immaturity of their insults. Calling Obama a monkey, and Park Geun-Hye a half-corpse seems below even an evil dictatorship.

I almost want a second source on this because it sounds too satire to be true.
I know, it's north Korea, but still.

The only thing NK can hope to draw sympathy through is the Unification talks since that is their one primary link with SK. So since Park Geun-Hye hasn't budged on her current diplomacy plan with NK, they are basically saying she is opposed to Unification and in turn is not cut out to be a leader since their young immortal Kim Jong-Un is all about peace and unification: as long as it's on his terms.
Also it's very ironic the direction they take with demonizing their enemies through propaganda as it is very similar to Imperial Japan in WWII, at the time one of Korea's most hated enemies.
... I kind of want one.
I want to frame one so when people ask what that framed thing on my wall is I can say with a straight face "Oh just some North Korean Propaganda."
You know your megaphones and radiowaves are working when they try to intimidate you to stop it.

I must say though, the North Korean people have lived in squalor and under ruthless tyranny for decades now. Being subjected to constant K-pop is like being forced to listen to Brittany Spears almost non-stop with no say in the matter. It reminds me of that form of torture where one is forced to listen to the same music/type of music non-stop until they crack.
I feel for anyone who has to listen to any kind of pop that for some reason requires the first letter of the country it originates from on a daily basis with no say in the matter. Poor bastards.
Imagine if there were 1 cookie in each of those, and it contained something lethal.

kpops alright
That's exactly what people in South Korea have been doing aswell
Why are they all attached to condoms? Trying to tell South Koreans to stay safe and stop producing more children?
That all they got? That's like 5 guys and a Xerox machine's worth of leaflets

North Koreans tend not to talk very western with cohernat thoughts, they don't say anything without a metaphor

The hilarity is that if they just sent like 10 of the leaflets, then they would be spread across the internet in an instant, reaching millions or billions (the propaganda would be useless of course, no one would care) but instead they take the resources to create a million of these and float them across the border.
