After viewing the interview comparisons video between Bungie and 343 and hearing this abysmal quote from 343's art director:
From the art process, storytelling is just about engaging the player. You don't have to answer any questions; you don't have to take them through any loops of feelings.
I felt kind of compelled to post this goodie again, considering it explains what makes good world building good. And before anyone asks, yes I'm late, this was posted once way back in 2013.
I should really play FONV again. I only never finished it because I only finished FO3 a few months ago before I played FONV so I was burned out and thought FONV was the same game just with gun mods.
This is a topic that's been discussed to death on countless forum threads but it's put together pretty concisely.
That was a really good video! It really manages to showcase what actually made New Vegas into a gem, not just for the Fallout franchise, but for video games in general.
Might check out this dude's videos later.
Great, thanks everyone now I have to give Fallout 4 another chance.

To an extent, the first half (Up to finding Kellogg) of FO4 is fairly open ended, but by the time you get to getting inside the Institute, the game railroads you (No pun intended) into the stupid endgame.
FONV is open ended from start to end, and doesn't railroad you nearly to the degree that the bethesda games do.
i binged this guy the other day and all of his videos are fantastic. highly recommend.
Meanwhile the nexus is creating the SHADification of Fallout, with goddamn Vault Meat everywhere. Fucking savages.
