• FacePunch Dissects a Cat!

[b]UPDATED 2/28/2011[/b] So in my 11th grade anatomy class, we've started dissecting cats as an educational experience. I kind of dreaded this because I am a cat owner and I always thought it would be kind of weird to dissect something that I'm so used to being alive. However, the experience has really put into perspective the way our body actually works and how intrinsic every detail of our bodies are. Part of the assignment is to take pictures and create a powerpoint of everything we've done so far. So I've decided to create this thread to share my experience with you. I started dissecting my cat much earlier in the year so I may not be able to elaborate to much on the earlier pictures, but the process is ongoing and we're not finished yet. I understand if you disagree with any of the practices in this thread, but you must understand these cats were killed due to population control. Instead of just disposing of the bodies they have been donated so that people like me who can benefit from this experience can do so. If you still disagree with this then please don't voice your opinion in this thread. I will be posting my pictures in media tags as to not displease anyone who doesn't want to see them. Enjoy! 1. The cat has arrived! Notice the preserving/bodily juices surrounding the cat. Yum yum yummy! [media]http://i.imgur.com/ECruNh.jpg[/media] 2. Here we're drying off the cat for the first time. Not only did we have to blot dry, we also had to kind of milk the juices out of it, i.e. we slowly squeezed from the top to the bottom. [media]http://i.imgur.com/IX0md.jpg[/media] 3. Here we can see the cat before we've started cutting. I'm unsure of that yellow spot, we never did figure out if it was a kind of mold or some kind of marking paint. [media]http://i.imgur.com/81kN3h.jpg[/media] 4. Here we remove the skin! The abdomin was stapled for some reason. I think it was to prevent movement of the intestines, because after the cat is dead the lining that attaches the innards to the layers of skin and muscle start to deteroirate, so things start to move around. [media]http://i.imgur.com/WFc9T.jpg[/media] 5. Here you can see we've completely removed the coat/pelt/skin! [media]http://i.imgur.com/fdJuzh.jpg[/media] 6. These are the major chest muscles. I don't believe that humans actually have a Xiphihumeralis, but the pectoralis Minor would be what we call our pecs, and the pectoralis major would be our smaller muscles above them. [media]http://i.imgur.com/1PW8Qh.jpg[/media] 7. We've cut through a couple muscle layers above the stomach. [media]http://i.imgur.com/LQGV3.jpg[/media] 8. The front legs. [media]http://i.imgur.com/zeSzch.jpg[/media] 9. The back legs. [media]http://i.imgur.com/YD1I2h.jpg[/media] 10. Here we've cracked through into the chest cavity. That paper may or may not be correctly placed. You can see the lungs to the left of it. That trachea is that whitish tube in the neck. Underneath that is the esophagus, which I accidently cut through when I was trying to locate it, heh. Notice how there's no heart, I wonder where it went? [media]http://i.imgur.com/Ocje6h.jpg[/media] 11. There it is! This cat must be in love with me now. [sp]Get it? I've 'stolen its heart' teehehehehe.[/sp] [media]http://i.imgur.com/3RPuph.jpg[/media] 12. 'You've broken my heart' This was really freaking interesting. Notice how obvious the veins are. That's because once the blood is removed, the veins are pumped with colored rubber. So once it hardens, the veins turn into a rubbery substance and are really fun to pull out. [media]http://i.imgur.com/G2Kw8h.jpg[/media] 13. I'm still a bit confused about this because I missed the explanation about it, but I believe this is the lower intestine. For some reason it's held together by some kind of fibrous web, I forget it's function but i'm sure its important. [media]http://i.imgur.com/8m2k5h.jpg[/media] [b]UPDATE 2/28/2011[/b] 14. So we've started work on the intestinal tract of the cat, here you can notice the liver. [media]http://i.imgur.com/iCgVE.jpg[/media] 15. Underneath the liver is the stomach. For some reason, our cat's stomach wasn't puffed up , or filled, like the other cats' were. I hope it was properly fed :( [media]http://i.imgur.com/jQsRe.jpg[/media] 16. Here we can see the largest part of the small intestine. There are three parts in total, although their names escape me. [media]http://i.imgur.com/zRZOL.jpg[/media] [b]UPDATE 3/1/2011[/b] 17. I've thought of myself as pretty tough when it comes to this type of stuff, but even this got to me. Today, our science teacher came around and showed us a small fetus that had been discovered in another cat. This is pretty sad, even to me, and I caution EXTREME NSFW! If the mods would like me to take this down, I will. I only post it because at the same time I find it very interesting to actually view something at such a developmental stage. That black dot is it's eye and around that the head, with mouth. You can then make out the rest of the body. Kittai? :smith:
oh god oh god oh god :gonk:
oh my god that is disgusting
None of the pictures work at all for me.
[QUOTE=SpartanV2;28309460]None of the pictures work at all for me.[/QUOTE] Is it like that for anyone else? They work fine for me
They work fine for me. Unfortunately. And it doesn't help that that cat looks almost the same as mine.
I had to click on the links rather than view image. Not as bad as I thought it would be - pretty cool actually.
none work
I just clicked the link under to view them but they don't show up under the image tags.
I found it interesting that they pump the colored gunk into the veins. I found it less interesting that you enjoyed pulling it out.
Go to hell you fucking piece of shit. I give this thread an hour before it's deleted. [highlight](User was banned for this post ("This post is not about the thread topic, is kind of rude and predicts moderation" - verynicelady))[/highlight]

[QUOTE=Goofa;28309552]I found it interesting that they pump the colored gunk into the veins. I found it less interesting that you enjoyed pulling it out.[/QUOTE] Perhaps fun wasn't the right choice in words, maybe... Interesting? or weird I guess
:science:
They don't work.
OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK I'm glad the images don't work for me.
[QUOTE=>VLN<;28309559]Go to hell you fucking piece of shit. I give this thread an hour before it's deleted.[/QUOTE] This I don't understand. I am also a cat owner and love her very much. I am not some cat murderer, but I must partake in this part of the curriculum. There are many things about this that I don't enjoy, such as the smell every morning after just having eaten breakfast. But it really is much better at getting the point across than reading it in some textbook.
That was interesting. I was supposed to dissect a cat in human anatomy last semester, but we never got around to it.
morbidly interesting. good job.
[QUOTE=>VLN<;28309559]Go to hell you fucking piece of shit. I give this thread an hour before it's deleted.[/QUOTE] He's dissecting an animal for an anatomy class. What a fucking monster
[QUOTE=>VLN<;28309559]Go to hell you fucking piece of shit. I give this thread an hour before it's deleted.[/QUOTE] wow you're a moron [highlight](User was banned for this post ("Report don't reply" - verynicelady))[/highlight]
As a fyi, these cats come from shelters. They're picked up after they've been euthanized.
My inquisitive scientific mind wants to see these pictures, but I can't bring myself to click the tags.

I'm glad the images don't load without clicking the link. My curiosity gets the best of me when it's a simple click to see the image, but if I have to click the link and open a new tab I don't bother :v:
[QUOTE=-AJ-;28309676]My inquisitive scientific mind wants to see these pictures, but I can't bring myself to click the tags.[/QUOTE] it's not mutilated by some crazy guy - that's gross and disturbing. this is purely educational and scientific, although it's perfectly normal to be repulsed by this
[QUOTE=>VLN<;28309559]Go to hell you fucking piece of shit. I give this thread an hour before it's deleted.[/QUOTE] Read the thread you thickheaded lumberfuck
[QUOTE=>VLN<;28309559]Go to hell you fucking piece of shit. I give this thread an hour before it's deleted.[/QUOTE]Someone didn't read the first few paragraphs.. the cats were taken from overcrowded shelters and passed on for medical use.
