On Thursday, President Barack Obama will do the same thing, but three of the broadcasters, ABC, NBC, and CBS have signaled that they won't be carrying it.
CNN will carry the 8 p.m. address, of course, and so will all the other cable news channels. PBS will, as well. And perhaps most importantly for the White House, the dominant Spanish-language broadcaster in the United States, Univision, will be translating it and airing it live.
at least other channels will be airing it.
I'm surprised that Fox is apparently showing it, but ABC, NBC, and CBS aren't.
Then again, I guess it's perfect "see guys Obama is bad, he isn't treating immigrants like heathens, let's impeach him" material for Fox.
And the three skipping it wouldn't dare miss out on important shows like Bad Judge, Scandal, and Big Bang Theory.

Then fuck off, morons.
they couldve aired on them channels but instead the white house didnt push for it? i wonder why. i mean the article says the white house wouldve liked for those 3 to air it so why not go ahead and formally request the timeslot then?
its about immigration, so im not surprised

Fox also will not be airing per the Washington Post
This whole immigration issue is terribly annoying. Most people support what Obama wants to do, but stop supporting it once Obama puts his name on it. Now people won't even hear his thoughts on it...

Doesn't this sum up US politics of the last few years though.
Of course ABC isn't broadcasting it. It's heresy against Reagan!
I'm sorry but he's the fucking President of the United States.
How are the major networks here allowed to not broadcast any presidential address at their discretion?
I mean I can't say I have a particular stance on it but it just seems like that'd be grounds for some executives to get some hefty ass fines/jailed.
Are you stupid or just an idiot?
Relevant:
But administration officials put out feelers this week and determined that the networks would be reluctant to hand over the air time, so the officials decided not to formally request it from ABC, NBC, and CBS.
(Those requests, when made by the White House, are essentially always granted.)
They aren't forced to air anything, they are allowed to pick and choose, as it is their own channel, not the government's.
I'm snipping it but I know it's quoted anyways. It's nothing new anyways I guess.
Still I'm surprised none of them are gonna be carrying it since it's immigration.
ever heard of the first amendment
yeah it blows and they're massive dickwads for doing it but it's their right, unfortunately
That's because 8pm is primetime and shows like big bang theory get more views than a presidential address so they won't be changing their schedule for something like that
And you can be mad if you want, but I doubt most of you will watch it, so you have no reason to complain.

Unless we decide to break out that old emergency presidential override system... Then every US network, cable, and satellite station turns into the Oval Office.

For those who don't know, US television has 'sweeps' periods. These times are when advertising rates are set, based on the amount of viewers the networks have during those sweeps. November/February/May are the sweeps months.
8 pm is the beginning of prime time, which is the big money time. To show this speech means the network is sacrficing a prime time night during sweeps, which could cost them untold amounts of advertising money. They have to ask themselves "Will this speech give us the same or better ratings than our shows?" if the answer is no then no speech for you. CNN will air it because that's their gig, Fox probably will get higher ratings showing it from all the hate watchers.
I don't think it's that big of a deal. CNN and Fox and others like it are known for news all day and having Univision broadcast it is a great thing since immigration is of interest to many minorities.
Anyone who really wants to watch it that badly will be able to watch it on the internet. Who gives a fuck if some news channels don't air it?

tv is still the largest source of news for amiercans, and the poor are less likely to have internet than tv, which is important since undocumented immigrants tend to be poor

Everyone who wants to watch/listen to it will easily find a way.

yeah okay? no one said they wouldn't just that they disapprove of the major networks not airing it

I've never heard of a cable provider not providing all of the major networks. It will show up somewhere.
some one say Corporatocracy
why won't they.?
MSNBC aired it so I guess that sort of counts
MSNBC aired it so I guess that sort of counts
There's no evidence that any living person has watched MSNBC, though.
