Police in India have arrested six men after they allegedly gang-raped a woman on a bus, just weeks after a similar attack shocked the nation.
The latest assault is said to have taken place in the northern state of Punjab. The police are searching for a seventh suspected attacker.
Last month, a 23-year-old student died of her injuries after being raped in the capital Delhi.
Five men have been charged with her murder and are facing trial.
If convicted, they face the death penalty.
A sixth suspect, who is thought to be 17, will be tried separately in a youth court if it is confirmed he is a minor.
The Delhi attack prompted mass protests which prompted the government to set up special fast-track courts to exclusively deal with rape cases and also consider strengthening sexual assault laws, the BBC's Sanjoy Majumder reports.
Night attack
Police officials say that the latest victim was a 29-year-old woman.
She is believed to have been travelling on a bus back to her village on Friday night.
The driver and conductor allegedly refused to stop at her village, instead taking her to a desolate location not far from the city of Amritsar.
The two men are then believed to have been joined by five others and taken turns raping the woman throughout the night.
The victim was then dropped off near her village, where she was able to tell her relatives about the attack.
The extent of the woman's injuries were not immediately known.
Something is seriously wrong with bus drivers.
Disgusting.
She's just trying to live her life, relying on a supposed city transit system and even at that she cannot trust. But that's just how it is living in a third world country. I grew up in a similar place where you can't even send out paper mail without the mailman pocketing it.
Reasoning is; she would not use a private taxi system because its too expensive and it's even worse than the bus transit in terms of security
I think they should be putting armed police officers on buses for awhile.
A couple of cases out of thousands of buses is not something to turn into a police state for.

I hope you read the country name.
India is huge.

Unless it means banning assault weapons
Unless it means banning assault weapons
Ban penis.
I wonder what's the reason for this. I can undersand one time as a very very fucked up case but independent sources report that there are many many many cases and only a few of them are reported. So what went wrong in India?
Dammit what the fuck are these guys doing? Something is up with India but I'm not even certain what is actually wrong.
I know that rapes are disturbingly common in some parts of Africa because rape is used as a means to dishonor or whatever.
Something similar here? Who knows.
Well it's a culture that promotes violence as a means of correction. It's common-place to hit your child, and I don't think that can result in a too peaceful culture in general. On top of that, remember that there are like 1,25 billion people in India. That's almost twice as much as Europe.
Unless it means banning assault weapons
Arguing about apples in a cucumber thread.
WTF you doin' ?
I hope you read the country name.

With a huge population. There should be way more than enough officers to send one into every bus.
At least in the cities.
:| and again. srsly wtf is wrong with those nasty indians that do busrapes

As long as high-capacity balls are also regulated I'll be happy.
In all seriousness though, this is pretty goddamn fucked up. Even after reading some of the articles linked above, I still don't think I fully understand the mentality behind doing something like this.
So what were those borderline retards thinking at the time
"She won't tell anyone, especially not after those OTHER guys who did EXACTLY THE SAME are probably going to be put to death ha ha?"
Ban penis.
Ban Women.
Those people are fucking sick. I hope they get raped in prison.
My girlfriend's friend (a girl) is backpacking in India right now with another girl. I always get worried whenever I see another story like this in India. How fucking stupid do you have to be to be a female backpacking with another female in India?

no but there needs to be Security Guards / or at least Cameras
but then again can we trust the Security Guards
india has a huge culture of misogyny. even the indians that come here to new zealand still bring this kind of culture, many of my female friends have had unwanted over the top advances made at them by indian men who somehow feel entitled to them. one of my friends was even followed home from her job. i'm not saying all indians are like this, but it's a culture fostered in india same as the attitudes towards women in heavily muslim countries in the middle east

Doubt they'll get the chance, according to the article they'll be facing the death penalty. Seems India is sick of this shit and wants to make an example of these people.

Mailman pocketing money in the mail isn't exactly unique to third world countries. It happens in the United States all the time.
