(Click any pictures to make them bigger) Only nerds go to conventions. People often use Nerd as a derogatory term. And often, so called "nerds" take insult to it. This is wrong, everybody should be proud to be a nerd. Being a nerd allows you to do certain things without consequences such as play computer games for extended periods of time, watch Sci-fi and join fan communities, spend countless hours of your life wasting away on an internet forum and my favourite of recently; Goto conventions. I won't lie, conventions can be scary places. I have never been to a convention in my life before last weekend. And I was expecting it to be full of pale, skinny, spotty teenagers. That's not a bad thing, I am a pale, skinny, spotty, teenager. But I was expecting to run into a few "creepers". Not nerds, but creepers. People who look like they haven't been in sunlight for a good 100 years. Balding middle aged men with disturbing smiles and bad hygiene. And although more than a few of these creepers existed at the convention I attended, they kept to themselves. Occasionally throwing a disturbing smile to my mum who tried to politely smile back. But the creepiest of the bunch was this guy dressed as a wolf running around growling at the really decent Stormtrooper cosplayers. The Stormtroopers began to imitate a battle with the furry before the guy got pissed that nobody wanted a picture with him. As-well as the squad of Stormtroopers marching around (They even had the microphone voice), their was also a fantastic R2-D2 replica droid. It was racing around whistling and spraying gas in children's faces. It was happily gliding along when it literally ran into a Stormtrooper squad. It reversed slowly before doing the signature R2-D2 scream and speeding off with the Stormtroopers chasing shouting "That's the droid we're looking for". It was hilarious. Patrick Stewart I had travelled to this convention for a simple goal. All my life I have wanted to meet Patrick Stewart. Not for Star Trek (Even though I like TNG), but for Christmas Carol. A film I watch every Christmas morning. I was told I would need to stand in line for two hours. CHRIST! TWO HOURS OF JUST STANDING AND WAITING? But for some reason, the 1000's of people who had booked to come see Patrick hadn't arrived. The line was practically empty. I was told if the line was busy I wouldn't be able to spend too long with Patrick as he had a lot of autographs to get through. But my luck was beautiful, the line was empty. So I approached the desk. Nervous. So nervous. "Hello" he projected. "Hello Sir" I replied rather pathetically. I gave him my Christmas Carol poster to sign. "Oh!" He was surprised to have to sign something other than Picard. "I love that film, sir. It's beautiful" "Yes. Yes it IS" "I watch it every Christmas" "Really? That's splendid! It was such a wonderful experience to make that film" At that point I felt the line that had quickly asembled pushing on my back. It was time to go. I said goodbye and went. Content I had met Patrick Stewart. Only for a few seconds. I will remember it forever. I doubted he would remember me an hour later when I went for a photoshoot. I walked into the photoshoot room and sat down next to him for the picture. He had been still and said nothing to anybody who had come through. He looked at me as I sat down: "Hello again" "Hello again, Sir" "How are you" "I'm rather well" Then the camera flashed just as I looked at the camera. We held the pose while the photographer did something and then we parted ways. "Lovely to see you" he said as I walked away with a cramp in my foot. I must have looked like Gregory fucking House. [IMG_thumb]http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w154/Dan2593/Patrick.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Others I met Tim Russ (Tuvok in Star Trek) This man was lovely. He signed a picture of Tuvok and then we spent about five minutes talking about computer games. He was telling me about when he did Dragon Age Origins. The recording sessions took ages but he really enjoyed it. He said he hasn't played any of the games he has been in as he uses a mac and they haven't sent them to him. But said his favourite recording was for: "Lost... something" "That's what it was called?" "I don't know. I forgot the rest of the name. Lost something.." "Lost something... sounds good" "Haha. Yeah it WAS" I found out this was Lost Planet. Georgia Moffett (The Doctors Daughter from Doctor Who)[IMG]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/rating/heart.png[/IMG] This was a childhood crush of mine. Wow she is so hot. I wanted my autograph personalised so I wrote my name down on some paper. When my turn came she asked me my name. I froze up. She was BEAUTIFUL. "You're name?" "Name? Oh! Paper!" She laughed and so did everybody around me. Embarrassed, I shook myself awake and gave her the paper. "Oh, Danny! How are you today, Danny?" "Great thanks, you?" "I'm good." Then we had a conversation about her new comedy series and how exciting that is for her. She was really nice. Chatty too. Shame she's dating David Tennant. What a waste. [IMG_thumb]http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w154/Dan2593/Georgia.jpg[/IMG_thumb][IMG_thumb]http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w154/Dan2593/Meandgeorgia.png[/IMG_thumb] You can see the yellow bit of paper with my name on it  Tom Baker (The Doctor in Doctor Who) Tom Baker is considered the best Doctor in the series. The man who made the show so popular in the 70's and 80's. Tom spent 10 minutes chatting to each fan. If you're interested here are some of his stories: "This picture I have here was taken on the day I was rejected by a girl. I was devestated. I saw her again recently. In a home. Demented." "Jon Pertwee was a lovely man. Never bought a drink. In his life. For anybody else" "Today's TV is clever but the characters aren't so good. Films and TV back then had strong characters all the time and people love characters. Today in TV you get a girl who can touch this ring and shine beautifully like a star. You see it and say "Golly". She does it again next week and you say "Gosh". She doesn't it again next week and you say "Take the bloody ring off". But she doesn't and the show is cancelled" I gave him a bag of jelly babies. He signed each Jelly Baby and gave them out. Lovely funny man. [IMG_thumb]http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w154/Dan2593/Tom.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Colin Baker (The Doctor in Doctor Who) One of the less popular Doctors. But a lovely man. He spent 10 minutes talking to this little boy about how the 6th Doctor would have beat the weeping angels by winking. He also talked about how much he loves Matt Smith. Joe Flannigan (John Shepard in Stargate Atlantis) "Crap". Is something he said a lot in Atlantis. But the man himself isn't crap. He had a bottle of whisky on his table and a signed picture of Tom Baker. He's a fanboy too. He told me that the Atlantis movies are dead and people should give up. He said "Atleast, they haven't told me" and he laughed his head off. I was too star struck to laugh. I think that insulted him. He also said he doubts he will be in SGU. He said nobody from the Atlantis crew would work on SGU, he says its a very separate style. Methinks he doesn't like it. I like it, but not much. I left him to his whisky. So. Conventions. Not as creepy or awkward as I had believed. I urge you all to try them, atleast Comic-Con if you can get to it. You could meet your heroes and have a laugh with them. I have learn't to appreciate all the people I see on TV, especially those I met this weekend. Personally. This was the best day of my life so far. Anybody else had convention experiences?
Georgia looks scared for her life in that first picture
So many awesome stars.... :gizz:
Snapped at the wrong time. The guy before me was a huge fat sweaty guy who literally grabbed her and probably had an erection. Knocked her off for a while.
Patrick Stewart looks like the kind of person who has a million stories to tell, but nobody worthy enough to hear them.
I am jealous.
I've always wanted to meet Patrick Stewart he seems like a pretty cool guy.

Jesus, I was so tempted to make a parody thread titled "The day I went to convention OR how I groped Georgia Moffett" [editline]01:18AM[/editline] But I didn't because being not banned is fun

Tom Baker looks like my granddad.
Also Kate Mulgrew (Janeway) was around. Way more expensive than Georgia so I went with the one I liked more. Ha, I make them sound like hookers!
Damn you, sounds like a lot of fun to be honest.

My mum met Tim Russ once and got a signed photo for my brother but not me :( I'm jealous of OP. Also I keep mixing up Colin Baker and Peter Davidson :saddowns: If someone said Peter Davidson I'd know straight away who it was but when people say Colin Baker I think Peter Davidson for some reason.
I wish I went to that :frown:
Holy shiiit. Patrick Stewart was awesome in Oblivion but he was only in the game for a short while. :C
Sexy lady
Was Patrick Steward Uriel Septim? I always thought his voice was familiar.

Reposting from the Doctor Who thread; got rid of the idiot in the background for you.
I know. I saved it to my computer. Thanks dude. That person had a really distracting face!
i am jealous of you
Damn. I ought to go to conventions more. As in actually go to one.
I am actually laughing because I am playing Oblivion which he voice acts in, and downstairs Star Trek : The next generation is on TV
when does he voice act?
Patrick Steward is the definition of awesome, i ope you charish this. I haven't seen his version of "a chrismas charol". actually, i've only watched his work that went into mainstream media (X-Men, Next Generation). but i've been looking him up and i like the way he seems to approach his work. He's kind of a rolemodel for me.
when does he voice act?
He's the king at the start, kinda wasted potential I mean they had Patrick Stewart and they made him say such shitty lines for a brief amount of time.
