In Perth Western Australia
HAY Street has been reopened after a fire broke out on the sixth floor of an apartment building this afternoon. A Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said they received the call just after 3pm today. About 15 firefighters were sent to the building, on Hay Street in East Perth, and the fire is now out. The blaze is believed to have been started by a candle. A St John Ambulance spokesman said two people, including a teenager, were taken to Royal Perth Hospital with minor burns and smoke inhalation. The building and neighbouring buildings were evacuated after the fire produced large amounts of smoke. Hay Street and several adjacent streets had been closed but have now been reopened.
May not be a known user but his name is Lolx0rz. Its scary when you have been to the house, then see it in this way, and think, it could happen to anyone Info that isnt well known, is that the fire started in his bedroom when he rolled over a knocked the candle over. After chatting with him today after his insurance company got him a laptop, he told me "At least i dont have to clean my room before mum gets home"
Good that they managed to get away with only minor burns.
BUT THE COMPUTERS!
The worst part is, the final piece for him new gaming computer arrived, today
The worst part is, the final piece for him new gaming computer arrived, today
Yes, that's the WORST part >_>
The worst part is, the final piece for him new gaming computer arrived, today
No I think the worst part is he doesn't have a house to plug the computer into.
Yes, that's the WORST part >_>
"I was just one day from retirement!"
Yes, that's the WORST part >_>
for him it is, he has no income and its hard to get insurance to claim on that stuff here.
BUT THE COMPUTERS!
I can live without a computer, I can't live without, well, life.
for him it is, he has no income and its hard to get insurance to claim on that stuff here.
But it's just a computer. The real tragedy here is the house and all those memories and things that are simply priceless, not a replaceable piece of circuitry.
I live sorta near hay street, There's a bit of smoke in the air, guess this explains it. Come to think of it, there's been quiet a few things lit on fire around this area lately... weird.
rip
Are the koalas okay?
Shit i thought i could see smoke today
this happened yesterday
Isn't it abnormal in australia if shit ISN'T on fire?
Only if it's Summer time (Winter in the US). It's always some dumb motherfucker dropping a match which burns down a metric fuckton of trees, which then leads on to endanger peoples houses. Every. Fuckin. Time.
Isn't it abnormal in australia if shit ISN'T on fire?
houses are designed to be fire proof cause of being in Australia, well most new ones
He knocked a candle over and didn't realize? Because, to be honest, I don't see how knocking a candle over can start a fire big enough to destroy your apartment (let me explain). I've knocked candles / charcoal over in my apartment plenty of times. I quickly react to it and either tamp out whatever the flame landed on or - because of how quick I acted, I usually don't have to do anything other than pick the candle / charcoal up. So did he knock the candle over and not realize or what?
Micro-Fiber Blankets + Fire = Smoky Room of DOOM I was asleep during the first few seconds of the fire, then woke up because it was in my face. Just about shat myself, luckily Nobody was hurt and I only got small burns.
Micro-Fiber Blankets + Fire = Smoky Room of DOOM
rip you will be missed

Why was he sleeping with a candle by his bed? :v: That's just asking for trouble to be honest. Hope his insurance company comes through for him.
Wait, there are other people from Perth on Facepunch? Is this really the best bit of news to come out of this city?
That sucks Why was there a candle anyway? first mistake
Wait, there are other people from Perth on Facepunch? Is this really the best bit of news to come out of this city?
Yes. The streets were blocked off while the apartment was on fire. [editline]5th September 2012[/editline]
That sucks Why was there a candle anyway?
It's a lengthy explanation.
Glad you're alive bro Being dead sucks, trust me
The worst part is, the final piece for him new gaming computer arrived, today
Was it the graphics card?
Lolx0rz, you live alone, right? First rule of living alone bro is not to leave an open flame somewhere dangerous. I'm ashamed of you, you've let me down. [editline]5th September 2012[/editline] This won't be a lesson you forget any time soon though. Must suck major donkey dick having your brand spanking new, pristine, powerful, awesome PC hardware that just arrived get burnt to a crisp. It died a virgin. Didn't even get the chance to show you what it could do.
Were you trying to get in with a sexy lady and using candles to make it more romantic?
Lolx0rz, you live alone, right? First rule of living alone bro is not to leave an open flame somewhere dangerous. I'm ashamed of you, you've let me down.
I'm 17, I do not live alone. Winged Assailant is over-blowing the delivery time of the part but yes it was the graphics card and I barely had a chance to push it to it's limits.
It does suck, I wont be going near a candle for at least a year.
