Marquez (54-6-1, 39 knockouts) is desperate to end the torment he’s suffered through, the narrow margins dividing him further from the mythical worldwide status Pacquiao (54-4-2) has achieved. Pacquiao has been promised at least $23 million for this fight while Marquez will get a guaranteed $6 million, for instance. The non-title welterweight bout –- Pacquiao lost his belt in arguably the worst judging episode in a decade when Timothy Bradley claimed a split-decision in June –- is again compelling. While Pacquiao, 33, spent his entire training camp in Hollywood’s Wild Card Boxing Club to perfect an all-attack method under the guidance of trainer Freddie Roach, Marquez, 39, has bulked up to become an astonishing muscular figure capable of delivering harder blows and withstanding Pacquiao’s assault. The Times is ringside for the pay-per-view bout, and will provide live round-by-round coverage when the bout begins. The fighters are entering the ring right now. Round-by-round updates (scoring not official): Round 1: After a thrilling buildup in a sold-out MGM Grand Garden Arena, referee Kenny Bayless gave the fighters their final instructions and the fight begins. Pacquiao's ready to charge. A Marquez counter right lands. A nice Pacquiao left. They move for position. This isn't the three minutes of action Pacquiao promised, but he did press the action, and did enough. Pacquiao wins the round, 10-9. Round 2: Again, they're waiting each other out. Pacquiao shoots in a right, then misses a left uppercut. Marquez gets in a short right. Pacquiao with a straight left, a nice punch. Marquez content to stand back. He gets in a good right. Again, Pacquiao did more work. Pacquiao win the round, 10-9. Pacquiao leads, 20-18. Round 3: Marquez throws overhand left. Pacquiao charges with a right that lands. Good left by Pacquiao. Counter left by Marquez. Left uppercut to body by Marquez. Big right and Pacquiao is down at 1:12 mark. Hard right by Marquez, then a big right to body by Marquez. Hard left uppercut by Marquez. Pacquiao fighting buzzed. Hard right by Pacquiao, Ton of passion in this fight at end, both guys swinging. Marquez wins the round, 10-8. Fight is even, 38-38. Round 4: Marquez lands with a high left. Marquez follows with a straight right. Pacquiao not in huge hurry to engage here. Pacquiao lands a jab, but Marquez makes him eat two hard rights before the bell. Marquez wins the round, 10-9. Marquez leads, 48-47. Round 5: Pacquiao drops Marquez with hard left. Incredible round. Marquez takes eight count. Pacquiao is at his most dynamic, battering Marquez with set-up lefts. Hard rights. He had Marquez cornered twice and wailed on him. Pacquiao win the round, 10-8. Pacquiao leads, 57-56. Round 6: Big left snaps Marquez head back. Marquez missing now. Marquez's nose is bleeding and appears it might be broken. He's breathing with mouth wide open. Hard right by Marquez. Jab by Marquez. Pacquiao lands a right. Marquez follows with wicked hard right. Pacquiao's out, not moving, fight is over. Marquez wins. He runs to corner and stands. Pacquiao down on canvas with his cornermen over him. He's now sitting up. Marquez wins by knockout at 2:59.
http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-pacquiao-marquez-live-coverage-20121208,0,6771.story The world stopped when Pacquiao fell. This is terrible news :suicide: Though he needed a harsh reality check. Pacquiao was on Hennessey and cellphone commericals chilling in Hollywood
I saw this coming. Marquez had to win after his last match with Manny
I don't see how anyone could think Floyd Mayweather wouldn't tear Pacquiao apart.
lol at his bitch crying
I don't see how anyone could think Floyd Mayweather wouldn't tear Pacquiao apart.
He wouldn't. Mayweather purposely avoids fighting southpaws, and well Manny is the quickest strongest southpaw fighter in the world... He's pretty much Mayweathers worst enemy But not like that'll ever happen now. After this, I feel like Manny may just retire for good and stick to politics. Which is devastating, he was my favorite fighter. Good for Marquez though, hes been overshadowed by Pacquiao and Mayweather for so long, even though hes a top 3 fighter in the world himself.
A true national tragedy for filipinos
Never saw that punch coming.
Loved seeing Romney's reaction in the slow-mo.
His brain certainly jiggled from that last punch. Pretty brutal to watch.
Marquez beat him in the last fight too. Too bad the referees were shit.
Video has been removed, anywhere else I can see this?
Marquez beat him in the last fight too. Too bad the referees were shit.
Whatever, Pacquiao got cheated out of a win against Bradley just before that too. It happens.

I feel like he should of just quit while he was ahead. Isn't he a bit over the average age of a boxer anyway?
I feel like he should of just quit while he was ahead. Isn't he a bit over the average age of a boxer anyway?
Are you talking about Pacquiao..? He's not that old, he's what, 32? Mayweather is like 34-35 and the guy he fought today Marquez is like 39 I believe
i dont know anything about boxing i only found out about this because someone on fb was posting about it like seconds after it happened "EPIC KNOCKDOWN BABY MARQUEZZZZZ LEZZGOOOO PACQUIAO LOOKED LIKE HATTON LMAO" i'm honestly surprised so many people in this thread are up to date on boxing. not in a "boxing is stupid" way i just didn't know it was still so popular?
Pac-man should just hang his gloves up. Time to retire. He had a good run.

It's bad karma.

Amir Khan is also an exception. I think most people just follow Pacquiao and Mayweather (praying they somehow still fight eachother, which after this is even more doubtful) after they retire I don't know how unpopular boxing will be though. I love watching it though, so I hope some more popular prominent fighters rise, I prefer it over UFC.

Kessler Beat Magee in 3rd last night.
It's not terrible news it's bloody great news. Pacquaio is only popular here for being popular. He ROBBED marquez of decisions 3 times now. This is Marquez getting his vindication in dramatic fashion. At any rate, I still can't fathom how people think Pacquaio is going to handle Mayweather. [editline]9th December 2012[/editline]
He wouldn't. Mayweather purposely avoids fighting southpaws, and well Manny is the quickest strongest southpaw fighter in the world... What are you smoking? He's taken out some of the best southpaws in the game. Worst enemy???? Pacquiao does not deal well with counter punchers, all of the marquez fights are evidence of this. Guess who the best counter puncher in the game today, if not the last few eras is? Mayweather.
Looks like he got elbowed pretty hard right before that last punch from the looks of that video.
i watched this live it was siiiiiiiiiiiiick hahahahaha fuck it was so good cause all the fights before it were 12 round decisions and fuck that shit knock outs or bust
A true national tragedy for filipinos
Good. I can't stand the "Proud to be Pinoy" crowd. I'm probably one of the rare ones who stop giving a damn about Manny when he entered politics.
Good. I can't stand the "Proud to be Pinoy" crowd. I'm probably one of the rare ones who stop giving a damn about Manny when he entered politics.
He's not even a good politician either. The only reason why he got in was because of his "national hero" status
I'm sad. This probably means he'll retire from boxing. Mark my words.
How many mexicans does it take to knock out Pacquiao? [sp]Just Juan.[/sp]
i just didn't know it was still so popular?
Yeah it's surprising but it's actually a lot more fun to watch for me than football or basketball

Look around the internet, its no secret that Mayweather has problems fighting southpaws, and I'm saying he started avoiding them recently because he wants to keep his 'legacy' in tact, which means picking the battles he knows he can dominate. Too bad his legacy won't mean shit if he never fights and beats manny. And he was never ROBBED out of those 3 fights, they were scored close by a lot of people. The first fight he definitely was not.
