Sweden's government has abandoned plans to run a snap election in 2015 after crisis talks between Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and the Alliance parties, which has been dubbed the 'December agreement.' "We who are here are prepared to take responsibility for how Sweden is to be governed. Constructive talks have taken place in the last few days," Löfven told reporters at a 10:30 press conference held in Stockholm. He added that the arrangement has been called the 'December agreement' and its goal is to ensure that a minority government can govern. Swedish daily Expressen leaked the story early on Saturday morning citing multiple sources within the government. At the press conference Löfven was flanked by the party leaders of the Greens, Moderates, Centre Party, Liberal Party and the Christian Democrats. Neither the Left Party or the Sweden Democrats were present.
http://www.thelocal.se/20141227/sweden-to-scrap-new-election-report
I don't know much about Swedish politics, care to elaborate a little bit?
Why? Are they all making a national alliance? I thought that only happened in times of national urgencies like natural disasters, war, or something like that...
nooooo fuck
I can't see this ending well for some of the parties in the coalition. Next election, SD are probably going to gain ground at their expense.

It's a very high possibility that the country, with this decision, will rot out and simply collapse on itself.
I see quite a few problems with this. Stefan Löfven promised that he would not govern an opposition budget, now apparently he will govern an opposition budget for 2015. This agreement will make it easier for minority governments to rule which may result in a more stable government but raises questions about the need to gain a majority in parliament to govern. It feels flawed from a democratic perspective since this will mean that the current government will only represent 37.9% of the population. The main opposition, the Alliance parties are in practice no longer an opposition since they refuse to drive their own policies. Since they won't vote against future government budgets they might as well be government parties only not part of the government and with no influence. This will be greatly exploited by the Sweden Democrats I imagine since this will further cement the idea that they are the only true opposition party. I predict that SD will skyrocket in upcoming opinion polls due to this, I mean they already went up a great deal after voting down the government budget.
Their agreements makes it easier for minority governments to rule by agreeing to put down votes on your own party's budget proposal and let the minority government's proposals pass and so on. It'll be in effect until 2022. But since they pranked us once already maybe they'll prank us again.

Do you sincerely believe that Sweden will just rot away in the next few years if SD isn't elected? If so, SD voters are even dumber than I had imagined. Even if SD ended up in power, I don't think Sweden would cease to be a successful country, it'd just end up with some awful policies.

It just became a problem when SD broke the "praxis".
RIP democracy.

Clearly the concept that a nation needs a defense, and can't survive solely on taking in hundreds of thousands of unskilled labourers, then give them no integration and just leave them as they are, are both problematic, along with the rest that this grey sludge has put forward is problematic, and you can't understand that, I don't know what to tell you, this is basic stuff that every citizen should be well aware of.

They all just want them to come here and leech off of benefits. Of course, how dumb of me to forget that.
Yeah, as we all know no other party but SD has any policies regarding integration and whatnot.
I am glad you agree with me.
I am glad you agree with me.
It's easier to have your policies seem well-defined if you diverge a lot from the other (sensible) voices in the room.
You should drop all the commie bullshit and just have two parties. It would make things a lot easier for me to comprehend. Thanks.

Honestly i don't care alot about what the Alliance and Löfven + Co. will do, as long as SD doesn't gain any more power i'm happy.
I'm both glad and sad it did not happen. The political turmoil was awful here, but the fucking playhouse that is our parliment is apalling. Everyone needed a good kick in the boot to get their shit in gear. I bet we will get the same shit again in a year or two because SD feels ignored and will declare their presence by protesting decisions in parliment. If any side would cooperate with SD they would get more power and would make SD not act against everyone else constantly out of spite for being ignored.

By a lot. It doesnt stop them it puts fuel in the fire by removing democracy.

It takes out all the pesty effort of following the news, watching debates, and then coming up with your own conclusions about each candidate.

Why can't one guy just cut through red tape bullshit and solve all problems by decree? kidding o'course but I knew someone who actually said that "voting is not economically feasible". He was neither drunk, nor high, nor joking.

I suppose it isn't without reason people refer to Sweden as the "New DDR".

What, is it somehow offensive or racist to elect?
