We’re exploring bringing Fiber to Jacksonville
This is so great. I hope I can afford it and my family buys it if they do bring it here.
Google knows they can capitalize on shitty situations people are having in the US. They should know that those same shitty situations also apply to most in Canada too.
AKA: bring it across the border and make even more mad stacks of money and have Rogers and Shaw shitting themselves.

May? Pretty sure it's been announced as "will."

On the Google Fiber site, they're listed as "potential" cities:

So yes, "may". Not a definitive "will" like you could say for Nashville.
Canada pls
I hope they do. I'll be overjoyed if so. I'd reconsider moving out of the state if I ever can if they do.
Can we just get Google fiber globally already!? :(
YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS
I'm surprised Detroit wasn't considered. Would be cool if it would get there because I live near it.
Gosh damnit I live in Tampa. Bring it here!
One thing to make jacksonville slightly less shitty
Jacksonville would be an interesting test case because of how large the city is. It spans 874.6 square miles (2,265 km2) and the largest city on the main part of the US. Trying to get a city that big to work perfectly with Google Fiber would be a good challenge for the Google team.
Probably why Florida is only on the potential list:

If you're going to be that pessimistic, every company might as well abandon the state now.
Comcast is so fucked they were offering 2 gigs a month for a 1k install and then 300 a month here in Jacksonville. The city would be extremely stupid to not allow this.

I hope they come through. I think I didn't read the article right but it said they offer a service free or something? Is that true? What is it specifically?

projected sea level rises?
I hope they come through. I think I didn't read the article right but it said they offer a service free or something? Is that true? What is it specifically?
Yeah a free service after paying either a one time fee of 300 or 25 a month until its paid off and that is 5down and 1mb up.
Or did you mean a service fee? If so From what I've read for other cities its 300 dollars to install it OR you can get a 1 year commitment and have that waived.
projected sea level rises?
Yeah. Really pessimistic, as pointed out by Ziron, but it probably plays a part in their decision making process. No reason to put an expensive installment into a city that's likely to get hit by serious floods and hurricanes when you can put the same installment elsewhere.

I meant on the google article agentfazexx posted.
Please do
hopefully this incites ISPs to provide better service to this shitty fuckin swamp peninsula in general and not just in jacksonville
Great news, I've been trying to find another service besides Comcast for a very long time. I've always been just over a mile outside of Bellsouth's coverage range so Comcast has always been a necessary evil. If paying a little more means I get better speeds & hopefully way better customer service, I'm in.
fiber would literally be a godsend, since my current internet speeds are around 200-250 kb/s.
This'll be great for when I eventually do get myself a place of my own.
Or maybe I could somehow find a way to balance Fiber for the net and Comcast for other stuff.

you guys get all the good live events anyway, let jacksonville have something finally pls
wow, that's insanely close to me
Maybe we'll get it soon

Detroit is a shit hole. They have no reason to bring it there.
