In its three-page ruling, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said the ruling was based on new information provided by the federal government, including a declaration from Major General Steven A. Hummer, who is leading the effort to repeal the policy. "In order to provide this court with an opportunity to consider fully the issues presented in the light of these previously undisclosed facts," the court wrote, that it would uphold an earlier order to keep the policy in place. Despite the delay in dismantling the controversial policy, the ruling bars the federal government from investigating, penalizing or discharging anyone pursuant to "don't ask, don't tell." The court of appeals had halted "don't ask, don't tell" July 6 but the Department of Justice filed an emergency motion Thursday saying ending the policy now would pre-empt the orderly process for rolling it back, per a law signed by President Barack Obama in December. The ruling was supported by Servicemembers United, an organization of gay and lesbian troops and veterans, but the group's executive director Alexander Nicholson voiced frustration over the slow process of dismantling "don't ask, don't tell." "The situation with finally ending this outdated and discriminatory federal policy has become absolutely ridiculous," said Nicholson. "It is simply not right to put the men and women of our armed forces through this circus any longer."
well that sucks
What the fuck?
Reading this news, I got a sudden case of severe internal haemorrhaging.
the ruling bars the federal government from investigating, penalizing or discharging anyone pursuant to "don't ask, don't tell."
So DADT stays but it can't be used? Heh America seems to cling to the symbols of hate more than the hate itself, which I guess is kind of progress
glad to see the important issues pressed here [editline]16th July 2011[/editline] fucking gays shitting up the military and i hope you guys see the sarcasm in this, i feel as if i should point this out
So, people in the military cant ask people they are gay and gay people cant say they are, but at the same time they are supposed to?
If this is about sexualpreference isn't don't ask don't tell good?, Think about it like this If you are going to die by the side of your soldiers do you really care if they are gay, straight or bi ? But in the case of bad stuff like Rape or something they should tell
So, people in the military cant ask people they are gay and gay people cant say they are, but at the same time they are supposed to?
I guess. Normal people don't generally disclose their sexuality to everyone unless like asked in a conversation or something. But in the case of bad stuff like Rape or something they should tell
DADT was bad because it was essentially a ban on gays in the military If anyone found out you were gay, you were discharged
So, people in the military cant ask people they are gay and gay people cant say they are, but at the same time they are supposed to?
sounds like it's not allowed, but with no consequence
DADT was bad because it was essentially a ban on gays in the military If anyone found out you were gay, you were discharged
AND they in a lot of cases went against the dont ask thing and searched through person items and questioned people.
DADT was bad because it was essentially a ban on gays in the military If anyone found out you were gay, you were discharged
Ohh, wtf ? I don't really think they should care the gays shouldn't say and if they find out and people have so much trouble with gays the squad he's working with if it's okay
No, im a swede, please enlighten me
Originally, it meant that you couldn't come out as a homosexual otherwise you'd be booted. It also counted if someone else found out, and in practice the "Don't Ask" part of it was a crock of shit.
Ohh, wtf ? I don't really think they should care the gays shouldn't say and if they find out and people have so much trouble with gays the squad he's working with if it's okay
Ask squadmates if it's okay? What if they say no?
Ohh, wtf ? I don't really think they should care the gays shouldn't say and if they find out and people have so much trouble with gays the squad he's working with if it's okay
Why can't someone mention that they're gay, why should that be taboo You're swedish stop acting like an american conservative
Why can't someone mention that they're gay, why should that be taboo You're swedish stop acting like an american conservative
I was more thinking about how religous americans are, i don't really care if i fight next to a gay person at all
I was more thinking about how religous americans are, i don't really care if i fight next to a gay person at all
Americans that have a problem with gays should get over it
Americans that have a problem with gays should get over it
They're afraid because of the words "Cover me!" and "I've got point!", you know how they are, they rape you as soon as you don't pay attention!
Every article I see on this retarded shit going on in America convinces me more and more that the US is going back in time.
They're afraid because of the words "Cover me!" and "I've got point!", you know how they are, they rape you as soon as you don't pay attention!
I dunno. Being shot at while fucking a man in uniform in a ditch is like the ultimate exhibitionist type scenario.
I hear it's a common fetish among gay men
I hear it's a common fetish among gay men
Not really a fetish. More of a force of habit.
So DADT stays but it can't be used? Heh America seems to cling to the symbols of hate more than the hate itself, which I guess is kind of progress
Yeah what the fuck. Stays but can't be used, it's like it's just there to appease the homophobes in politics. I guess it's better than being used.
"I'll die for my country in which doesn't allow me to be a living homosexual."
Those folks are willing to kill and be killed for their country while keeping the world safe so that the rest of us can sleep nice and well at night, knowing that someone is doing the dirty work on our behalf. Who are we to question what they enjoy doing within the confines of their private bedroom as long as it remains safe and consensual? (Don't Ask should remain, but Don't Tell should be repealed.)
Some of my best friends are anti-gay and argue constantly with me about the issue. Not to mention, most people my age that I know of are like that too. I wish people would quit being so ignorant and support freedom how it should be.
If I'm ever drafted into the military with DADT at full go at least I can pull the gay card.
If I'm ever drafted into the military with DADT at full go at least I can pull the gay card.
Fun fact: Jimi Hendrix did that to get out of being drafted.
I never really liked it as a rule that could dismiss you on the grounds of having different sexuality. I do however like "Don't ask, Don't tell" as a principle, as it enforces the rule of "Mind your own goddamn business". I don't see why people need to tell everyone that they're homosexual in the same way that I don't want people to go around announcing that they're straight. Perhaps they could just change the rule to "Ask if you want, Don't tell unless asked".
