The UK's big banks will be broken up if they fail to follow new rules to ring-fence risky investment operations from High Street outlets, Chancellor George Osborne has announced.
He has said taxpayers are angry at banks' behaviour and will never again be expected to bail them out.
His speech comes on the same day the government introduces its Banking Reform Bill in Parliament.
Now do this in the US please.
Took them long enough, but is it too little too late?

alot of the bankers are chums with tories.
why not just let them collapse on their own instead
why not just let them collapse on their own instead
Because people need banks, and the collapse of a bank would severely hurt the economy.
We were pretty much accelerated into a recession by the banks in the first place, then we're expected to give them money. Glad someone is taking a stance, even if George Osborne is a dick.
Nothing will change, the banking system is fucked

It's a video that explains how banks work.
It's a video that explains how banks work.
in a very shitty way, before claiming the rothschilds run everything
it also claims that fractional reserve banking causes hyperinflation
wtf
Because people need banks, and the collapse of a bank would severely hurt the economy.
more banks would spring up to fill the gap and the market would stabilize
Now do this in the US please.
The Dodd-Frank Act was supposed to have eliminated bail-outs in the US, but I somehow doubt something that good could come from the US before the UK.
more banks would spring up to fill the gap and the market would stabilize
Although there would be a period with extreme instability.
And there'd also need a way so people would be able to get all their money back if a bank goes belly up (not counting literal investments like stock)
About fucking time
more banks would spring up to fill the gap and the market would stabilize
that little inspirational idea doesn't help when people are suffering.
more banks would spring up to fill the gap and the market would stabilize
can you even comprehend how much money people would lose from major banks defaulting/stealing?
more banks would spring up to fill the gap and the market would stabilize
Ok, and what about that pension fund I had with Big Bank Ltd. that I was paying money into for years? Oh right, it's gone and I'm fucked.
Break them up into bite size pieces of justice.

lots
that's kind of the point
"The problem with capitalism is that there are too few capitalists"
Any big bank that takes a nation's economy as a hostage should be broken up.

do you not understand that a bank collapse has more farther reaching problems than just everyone losing their money? a large bank failure = recession
your fault for picking a shitty investment
it's a person's fault for not having the omniscience to tell that their bank was being run by a bunch of criminals?
it's a person's fault for not having the omniscience to tell that their bank was being run by a bunch of criminals?
it's their fault for not diversifying their assets
it's a person's fault for not having the omniscience to tell that their bank was being run by a bunch of criminals?
Is it the customer's fault? Absolutely not, they had no way of knowing. Is that a risk that they took when they signed up with a bank? Yeah. They took the risk, and the risk bit them.
[editline]4th February 2013[/editline]
Is it a bigger risk, hell, a stupid risk to put everything into a single investment? Dude fuck yes thats a horrible idea in ANY case, doesn't matter if your bank is run by Jesus. All your eggs in one basket, where if something goes wrong you lose EVERYTHING. In that case, its not only the bank's fault for fucking it up, but your fault for trusting them with your entire financial life.
it's their fault for not diversifying their assets
Who? the bank or the people?
'cause I don't wanna run around town just to handle some money businesses.
And the way the UK ministers wanna handle it is the better plan, since the consumers will still be safe.
Will you guys just believe in the market, jesus christ I highly doubt you have more than $50,000 in the bnak for the FDIC to insure. If a bank fails you have insurance that will pay you back.
it's their fault for not diversifying their assets
yea it's their fault for being murdered, raped, of robbed as well. how about we blame criminals for criminal actions and provide assistance to victims like sane, reasonable people?
Now do this in the US please.
Oh dear, I think we're beyond that point. It's more like capitalism <=> our government

You posted this in Video and Flash Movies earlier and no one took it seriously then, why would any take it seriously now?
