I have a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander GT, and am thinking about getting a bull bar. Sport bull bar, nothing HUGE that covers my headlights and everything. I'm not sure about you guys, and yeah, we all have different opinions, but I think that a bull bar would look sexy on the Outlander. It just fits. Not only do I want it because it looks good in my opinion, but the car doesn't really have a 'bumper' per-say, and since we travel in this car it'd give it protection. But at the same time look nice ;-)
Only problem is, price. I mean holy mother of shit, those damn things are 400 bucks!!!! For a curved metal peice and a little cross beam. I mean 200 I can understand, but over that? For a metal guard? Jesus. Seems crazy expensive. I'm not offroading or swamping this of course, so I don't need something thats meant to be smashed into trees daily, just something to look pretty and protect the front, so if I went a little cheaper, would it hurt?

What do you think guys? Could you beat that? Have any experience? I want something cheap, but nothing that'll fall apart or be useless if it gets tapped. Anyways, throw up your expert opinions on brands. All I want is a nice little sport style bull bar.
No.
my whole opinion is just no.
I think you should be good on that cheap one. Just makkkeee sureee its a direct fit. Not a drill hole here, hold mouth just right.
And If some of the jeeps owners would chime in, they could tell you easily how much one can cost.
only cars that look p cool with those bars are crown vics, chargers p much what the police use
No.

Like I said, everyone has different opinions. I'm more so looking for opinions on brands. If you ever see it in the future with a bull bar and don't like it you can go ahead and let me know all about it :-)

Yeah, but the outlander needs something in front of it. Doesn't have a bumper, so a little bull bar wont hurt. And its nothing huge either.

Yeah, only direct fit. I don't feel like drilling anything into my new car. And I'm sure they can get real expensive, especially when you add attachments. But this is just for a little protection.
The only purpose bull bars have is to protect the body of the car it is on from damage from collisions.
If you're off roading a lot, sure. If you're helping push a stalled car to safety, why not. Just because? That's permanently modifying the frame of your car to get no benefit out of it.
Also you'll probably just be called an off roading poser.

Gotcha mate. And like I implied, this was just an idea I had and wanted some input before I went through on it. But seems like even small bull bars are touchy amongst the offroaders, so I'll stay away from them ;-)
I wasn't quite sure how well they'd work as a bumper, if they'd be good for things like animals, which was what made me consider it in the first place, and I thought they'd mount to already drilled/mounting parts on the front of the car. Good thing I asked here first.
Thanks mates!
Oh, and atleast I'm not mounting this on a minivan. I've seen way too many of those. Looks like too much money to waste on an ugly addition to a minivan. :P
Well at least you're open to other opinions. I see too many on these forums ask for opinions when they've already made up their minds and won't be swayed.

They only hear what they want to hear. I'd rather not throw out 200 bucks for a stupid addition, lol.
Put one on if you want. It'll probably look better than you think, people won't care if you got one or not and you shouldn't give a shit what Facepunch says anyway :v:
body shops call them damage multipliers for a reason.
they are thin walled units with brackets that cant withstand a huge force.
my dad's space cruiser had badass bull bars. for xtreme offroading

I'd lay money on it tha a 5 mph bump at the center or the corners that thing would fold like a pretzel. I bet u could bend the head light piece with your hands.
U can see the little scrape the thing on the left side has bent in and upward.
The wall thickness isn't enough.

They are designed to keep branches from breaking the glass on the headlights. Not to withstand a crash
Agreed, whatever that thing hit was a pretty hard pop, to fold that pipe into itself and score the entire area around it. Looks like it hit another car or an obstacle of sorts, no mere tree branch or bush like it was designed to fend off.
...I wanted a small bullbar for my blazer...

Then get one

As long as your bullbar don't look like my bullbar.
Is... Is that a Suzuki Cultus wagon back there?
I fucking love the Suzuki Cultus.
[editline]26th June 2012[/editline]
Yeah, def. is a Cultus

Couldn't find a pic of the earlier one, which had the different pillars and slightly different tails, but it's close enough.

LOL. I linked it if you somehow didn't see it. It doesn't even cover the lights. Nor does it even go HALF way up the grille. But people seem really touchy here about it, even this tiny little bullbar might seem 'offroad poserish' for lack of a better term. Oh well :P

I'd just buy it if you like it. But I'm not the kind of person who cares what other people think about my vehicle.

Absolutely, me neither. Its just a lot of money to pour into something that in the end isn't worth it.

Also, this one has stopped morons from backing into me.

I could actually consider doing this when I get my Volvo :tinfoil:

A push bar would look better on that
like this:

or a more simple one like this:

Yeah ok the one I posted was p. bad looking.
But, like this

could work fine, or something like the ones you posted.

Thats exactly what I want mine for. Keep it protected and keep idiots in parking lots etc... from getting too close. Not sure how well that'd work, but I've noticed when I have my trailer hitch on people actually stay noticably farther away from me.
With the numbers of people that scratched my front bumper I'd be tempted to get a push bumper on the prix :v:
If you dont have a truck and a purpose for it. Dont get it.
If you dont have a truck and a purpose for it. Dont get it.
Why do I need a truck for a bar? Lol. So no cars other than trucks can have protection? That sucks. I'd think I need it equally as a truck since I don't have a proper 'bumper' on my car. That means if I have a smaller collision, like a fender bender, I'd have to replace the whole front grille. And I've stated my purpose in the op, no? And to expand on reasoning, as WolvesSoulz said, it also protects against scratches. This isn't something that covers the whole front of the car. So I do have a purpose for it, I just don't have a truck.

LOL, not sure if they make ones that'd fit it :P It'd look like an aggressive little thing tba :v:
