Not to my knowledge and you can only have one now, however they're a lot more customizable and with the addition of Grimkynes and the ability to speak with them, your Palico can now take and ride some of the Small monsters to aid you in battle, so it balances out.
oh didn't know they're doing crossover stuff too, the horizon zero dawn palico armor looks cool.

I hope the Palico AI is a lot better in MH world. I love these little fellas but they're fucking useless 90% of the time, even with the right traits.

Unfortunately no, Prowlers no longer exist in MHW and you're limited to 1 palico IIRC. However, there are a great many aspects about them you can customize not just armor and weapons, but certain abilities too. They also take advantage of the environment and can communicate with other small monsters. They may even be able to talk those monsters into helping you out. I've seen my palico saddle up and ride a small monster into battle against Anjanath, which I gotta admit was pretty fucking awesome the first time I saw it.

There's no traits or enthusiasm stats anymore. They're not as fragile as wet aptonoth shit, either, so they can take a few hits. You'll see them right up in the fray, putting in some work, and if they're not on cooldown, they're on point with heals if you have it equipped. I've even had a couple tail cuts thanks to him. Probably lucky strikes, but already more than the entirety of either Gen or 4U for me.

Yeah, while it does feel like you're getting less, being limited to 1 palico and all, that one palico is WAY more capable than anything we've seen in 4U or Generations.

Do remember that the difficulty of quests scale depending on if you are doing single player or multiplayer. Quests have support for both this time around and the strength/health/size of the monsters scales accordingly. Supposedly in single player (by yourself, with/without your palico) the monsters are much weaker than they would be if say, you went charging in with a full party (yourself + 3 other hunters).
But if you're talking about specifically how much this individual palico will affect your game, you need to remember that while you only have 1, this one palico is WAY more useful than palicoes in previous games. But I'm pretty sure you could just opt to go in without the palico if having a crutch bothers you that much.
Is there some lurking controversy about this game I missed because I've been seeing nothing but cool shit since it was announced on top of it coming to PC and it almost seems too good to be true :v:

People were initially worried that it would be too westernised and streamlined but it looks like it isn't the case at all.
I know almost nothing of Monster Hunter but gosh they ARE SO CUTE.

Also, for those curious, they're holding another PS4 beta, but no PS+ required to download. You can do multiplayer and everything in it.
