2011 - The Ratings LP - A Concept Album
After some long careful planning We have completed the concept album based around the rating system. http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1063994-Let-s-Make-a-Concept-Album. Take a look at this thread to analyse how many tracks were put into the making of this. All the tracks are on soundcloud so you can listen to it there if you like or you can download it as the package, as it was intended Most concept albums tend to tell stories or give you a consitent feeling throughout the music, this one however is going to be simple and contain songs that people feel go with the ratings you all know about. I want to contribute to the next one :(
Yay
Wonderful!
Why the dumb ratings?
Why the dumb ratings?
Might have something to do with something being dumb.
wow
Most of them were difficult to listen to, particularly "An Agreement" and "Friends"
Why the dumb ratings?
The front cover is a box with the fp logo in it, that's probably why :v:
I'm sorry but that cover design is horrible.
Most of them were difficult to listen to, particularly "An Agreement" and "Friends"
Most are experimental as fuck. Sorry about that.
hahaha awesome
you should put it on bandcamp~
My favorites are KanonieR and Forever. Best ratings on the site too. :D [img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img]
Next time I'll conrtibue so that we can get some blues or jazz in there!
you should put it on bandcamp~
Will do, it was just simpler to put it in rar first. I'll put the wavs on there too.
Here is an old cover that I made long ago, if you guys don't like the one in the OP.
I just listen to all of it. And by all of it I mean a two second sample of each song. I'll just say that if I was walking home from work and I was feeling pretty good and there were these two homeless people selling copies of this CD for fifty cents each I might buy it, but only because I'll feel bad for them if I don't.
And pie is good.
Why the dumb ratings?
There's a huge box in the cover. It's almost subconscious.
Too much work to contribute to moustache soz, but i need to pass school
I told him he could use Atmospheric Bowage for the moustache rating.
There's a huge box in the cover. It's almost subconscious.
Avatar fits.
you're missing some ratings ie moustache
Well. I don't much enjoy the songs, but I appreciate free music.
If you liked artistic <------------ Check out my soundcloud (Shameless self-plug)
There isn't such a rating.
Dohohohoh Anyway, I listened to this album from start to finish and this is what I typed up as I went: An Agreement - Reset Panda A simple spoken intro to the album, not really reviewable. I Disagree, Reginald - Clovis A decent electronic track, but it sounded too often as though it had segued into the next track. Naybe that was the intended effect but it didn't win any points in my book. Dylan's 420th Dream - Funktastic Dog Seems to me like this was an attempt to sound "420 DUDE I'M SO HIGH HEHEHE" (which would obviously be better suited for the smarked track), but the "humour" in this song fell flat and the repeated guitar chords quickly became annoying. Sunlight - Hakita There were some good ideas thrown around here, and it probably would have sounded a lot better if it wasn't in Midi format, but I suppose there isn't much you could have done about that. Buzzsaw - Puddlez One of the best tracks on the album. Well-structured and it got my foot tapping. I actually went back and listened to it again at the end, which - given the rest of the tracks on here - is an achievement. Information - Puddlez Unfortunately, Puddlez' other contribution didn't live up to the expectations created by the previous track. I'm not sure what you were trying to convery here, but to me the super-fast breakbeat (or what sounded like one) didn't really paint a picture of information in my head. Forever - Reset Panda A nice little piano track. Isn't much more to say about it. Tool For You, Tool For Me - Akayz This track sounds like someone was trying to make an industrial track (which they did an okay job of) then realised they needed to have a standard instrument at the end, and as a result the piano outro couldn't sound more out of place. Friends - Pepin My second favourite track, with a good melody and a kickass solo at the end. But is that your normal singing voice? Because the high-pitched groaning vocals kind of killed it. Orion - KanonieR I enjoyed this track, because it partially reminded my of Coldplay or Keane or any of that other slow-tempo britpop-y kind of thing. Late At The Gates Of Hysteria - Akayz Again, this was just some bog-standard (what sounded like) marimba experimentation (read: adding random notes to a melody here and there) with a ticking clock added because Akayz remembered he was doing a track for late. Boxed On Saturday - Akayz & Pepin Okay the vocals on "Friends" weren't Pepin's normal singing voice, but I kind of hope this isn't either. Any of the voices you put on for that matter. And since I can't hear otherwise, I'm going to assume Akayz did the intro and outro, and Pepin did the rest of the track, in which case the transition between the two was about as seamless as two pieces of fabric on opposite sides of the Atlantic ocean. As for the track itself, it's an okay (if a little repetitive) beat with some of those atrocious vocals and "experimental" sound effects slapped on top. Overall an awful song. Smarked - Pepin After the trainwreck that was the last track, this song is a marked improvement and a relieving way to close the album. While it certainly captured the feel of being on drugs, it wouldn't be a Pepin song without those god damn Pepin vocals. They remind me of a teenager who's singing a song to someone but doesn't want to sound like they're too into it. Musically the rest of the song was pretty cool. Another problem I had with this album is that the volume was really badly normalised. I found myself having to continually adjust the volume on my media player in order to hear everything. And lastly, I wasn't entirely sure what a lot of these tracks were trying to make me feel. A few times I had to check the track listing to work out what the fuck a particular track was supposed to be about. Now, you may argue that that was the point, but with a concept so clearly defined as this was, there really needed to be a little more clarity in what each track was trying to do. Overall score? A 4/10, for a musically confused album that was trying to be more artistic than it actually was.
you're missing some ratings ie moustache
I regret not making cheesy porno music for that
Okay, Uploaded the wav version on Bandcamp. Thanks for the feedback :v: http://facepunch1.bandcamp.com/album/the-ratings-lp
