Sad story. He was only 25.
Saw this happen live on TV. Sucks that he died. Though it shows the risk these athletes take to perform these tricks.
XGames' response:
We are deeply saddened by Caleb Moore’s passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents, Wade and Michelle, his brother, Colten, and the entire Moore family. He will be remembered for his natural passion for life and his deep love for his family and friends, and he will always be an inspiration to everyone he touched in the action sports community
As a result of this accident we will conduct a thorough review of this discipline and adopt any appropriate changes to future X Games.
For 18 years we have worked closely on safety issues with athletes, course designers and other experts. Still, when the world's best compete at the highest level in any sport, risks remain. Caleb was a four-time X Games medalist attempting a move he has landed several times previously.
On a happier note, here's a trick he and his brother did two years ago during their first X Games appearance. His brother is also in the hospital after separating his pelvis on the same jump.

Man, this is sad.
He looked like he'd be ok in the first shot they showed, but having that much weight fall on your back kind does some damage.
RIP Caleb.
At least he died doing what he loved. RIP. :(
Moore was knocked unconscious in the crash and medical staff attended to him while he lay in the snow. When he awoke, he was able to answer questions and walked away from the hill.
Damn. I can't believe he walked away after that. RIP man
Damn. At least he died doing something he enjoyed. I sickens me how some people are calling him stupid for doing something so dangerous, pretty much everyone involved in Action Sports accept the risks and in no way should be criticized for it.
That particular Snowmobile event is extremely dangerous, I saw it as well. On the finals on that very same day, some dude's Snowmobile accelerator got stuck, and after he fell off the the bike the thing just went off against the crowd wounding somebody. The accelerator actually got stuck twice, only the second time it landed backwards and just stood in place.
I know that the athletes realize there's danger involved, but this particular event needs to be checked for safety.
He knew the risks going in, and he went in anyway. He died doing what he loved.
Oh shit. This really sucks.
Didn't see it live or anything, as I stopped following Winter X because I lost interest. I prefer the Summer X-Games. But still, everyone who competes at the X-Games take risks in their sport. I believe this is the first death in X-Games history, but it certainly is not the first incident.
Most people remember the nasty bails Danny Way and Jake Brown had during Mega Ramp runs, and the plenty of Freestyle Moto X riders who've had their bikes land on them mid-flip.
Rest In Peace Caleb
Dacheet, watching that video was painful..
The snowmobile hit him twice, after he already had a huge impact on his head and neck. :(
