Hey Facepunch.
I need some suggestions for Genuinely scary movies for a scary movie party.
Maybe some things like The Shining, or i've heard REC is pretty good.
Psychological thrillers would be the most appreciated, but some screamers are OK too.
Thanks guys.
:unsmigghh:
[REC] is great!
Also, I would recommend Paranormal Activity. DON'T give into the hype or it will ruin it for you. Its a very scary movie. I loved it, but I was also saw it before it was demanded everywhere. I saw it at some small movie theater near Houston. I think the reason most people didn't like it was that it was overhyped; people were expecting too much from it.
Care bears the movie
Shutter Island?

I don't pay attention to horror movies or even watch them (Not fond of the genre), so I wasn't expecting anything from it when a friend invited me over.
Seemed a little forced and cheesy "Oh derp the door opened and the sheets were pulled off". I couldn't get attached to any of the characters and I thought the ending was balls. Again, I don't know if this is something normal to experience since I don't watch horror movies.

Now we're talking. Not really scary, but more of a thriller. Probably one of my top five movies...
Shutter Island?
great start shitty ending
The Strangers, the Poghkeepsie Tapes, and others in which I don't want to mention.
Session 9 for psychological horror. Sleepaway Camp for "OMG what did I just see?!?!" horror.
Shining is entertaining more than scary.
Identity is sort of thrillerish more then scary. But still fantastic. Also no matter what people say The Shining is not scary.
One Missed call, the american version, it's really scary :D
It's really hard to give reccomendations on "scary" films because people are frightened by different things. Some people are terrified of gore, hence Saw films/Hostel films/etc. Some people are terrified of ghosts, hence all ghost films, and some people are scared of psychological concepts such as madness and hallucination, which I think is what you're after seeing as you asked for psychological thrillers.
In which case, I recommend Jacob's Ladder. More disturbing than genuinely scary but ehh, it's a good film. If you like ridiculous over the top gore I could recommend "High Tension" because of its "psychological" aspect, but I really hated that film because it's just fucking awful in every possible way, like it was filmed by a psychology student. It's got such retarded ideas in it it makes me want to puke.
I thought 1408 was good, really creepy at times and quite heavy on the psychological stuff.
I guess that's all I can think of right now.
The Thing
A Nightmare on Elm Street, the original. Still creeps me the fuck out to this day.
Ju-on: The Grudge(yes, the Japanese version.)
The Ring(found it spookier than Ringu, really.)
The Blair Witch Project
The Thing
The Exorcist
Night of the Living Dead
Session 9
The Others
Lady in White
The Amityville Horror
I love scary movies and basically strive to find the perfect ones that can actually instill a feeling of dread in me.
The ones I've listed are the ones that have thus far succeeded.
Signs.
Human Centipede.
Signs.
Night of the Living Dead.

I agree... I watched that movie many times and I could never find it that scary :/
Any of the saw movies
Just kidding....
The thing is a great one.
My brother said the Hong Kong movie "Big Head Monster" was freaky as fuck. Asia is a goldmine for this stuff.
The Blair Witch Project
Alien
28 Days Later
Just watched 1984 (the one made in 1984) and the room 101 scene scared the shit out of me even though I've already read the book.
Paranormal Activity :downs:
Dead Alive
The Thing
The Shining
Dawn Of The Dead
Pet Semetary
King Kong (1933 or 2005...just not 1976)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)- One of the greatest movies ever made.
And that's just a few
Care bears the movie
This.
But seriously, The Grudge was freaky.

All of those... :ghost:
See if you can find Outpost. Not really terrifying but kinda creepy, has Nazi zombies and that sort of stuff.
So would a list consisting of
[REC]
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Blair With Project
1408
Sleepaway Camp or Session 9
Does that sound good for a SRS Scary movie party?
The Ring is fucking scary.
Also, try watching Twilight and New Moon without screaming in horror and clawing your eyes out.
The original "the omen" movie.

I'd watch them in this order if you go with Sleepaway Camp:
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Sleepaway Camp
1408
The Blair Witch Project
[REC]
This order with Session 9:
The Blair Witch Project
[REC]
Session 9
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
1408
This is because 1408 and Session 9 are both more subtle, so you'd want to space them apart. Whereas with just 1408 you can use it to separate similar movies(TCM/Sleepaway Camp and handheld BWP/REC).
1408 was stupid and completely unscary.
Same with Sleepaway Camp, which was mostly just stupid... the twist just barely makes it worth mentioning.
