Rush is a Canadian progressive rock/classic rock, band formed in 1968 in Toronto, Ontario. The trio consisting of Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee and Neil Peart are some of the most talented musicians in history. Rush is known for having a unique sound that no other bands can match because of their excellent drummer Neil Peart and underrated guitarist Alex Lifeson. No other band will ever sound as good as Rush. They got the name 'Rush' when they were rushing to find out a band name and the drummers brother said, "Why don't you guys just call yourselves rush?". History Rush started out with Alex Lifeson and two friends in 1968, a few weeks in after their first performance they replaced the lead singer with Geddy Lee. They started off playing in bars and at high schools in the Toronto area. They got their name around and by May 1971 they had their lineup consisting of bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer John Rutsey. In 1974 after releasing their first album "Rush", John Rutsey resigned due to health problems, Rush was in need for a new drummer. Neil Peart showed up to audition driving a beat up shitbox car, with his drums stored in trash cans. He played for Geddy and Alex, they were iffy about accepting him because of his crazy style of drumming. After talking about it they decided to accept him in. Neil Peart turned out to be one of the best drummers in history. He started off playing songs by Led Zeppelin in the early years of Rush, people said he sounded BETTER than Jimmy Page himself. His influences were Jimi Hendrix, Pete Townshend, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. Alex usually plays a Gibson Les Paul or ES-355. Geddy Lee - Bassist and vocalist of Rush, he also plays keyboard in a few songs, he is known for his unique voice, when you hear a song by Rush, you will know its Rush when you hear his voice. he legally changed his name to Geddy from Gary because his mother would pronounce Gary like "Geddy" and his friends thought it would be funny to call him 'Geddy'. He stuck with this name since highschool. Neil Peart - One of the greatest, if not, greatest drummers of all time. Niel Peart can be heard pounding the shit out the drums in most Rush songs, he has awesome kick ass solos in some songs like "Tom Sawyer" and at live performances. It is said he was the first drummer to use two bass drums aka "double-bass". rush is my favorite band right now I'm going to see them in march [editline]6th February 2011[/editline] also fucking cygnus also also if you're even remotely interested in this band I recommend watching their documentary that came out last year it's a great film
Tom Sawyer and YYZ on the Guitar Hero series put me on to Rush, I like them not love, but they've definitely earned their place in my music library.
Ginger baker used double bass circa 1968.
Found them by accident, listened to 2112, instantly fell in love.
Ginger baker used double bass circa 1968.
yeah the whole op is kind of biased but it doesn't make rush any less awesome
Ginger baker used double bass circa 1968.
True, he did, I totally forgot. I guess Neil was one the first

Going to see them in May at the O2 Arena :neckbeard:
Rush is best
Rush are a damn good band. Looking forward to their new album. Also how could OP make a Rush thread and post songs by Rush without mentioning 2112
I mentioned 2112, read the thread next time
You just edited that in :v:
You just edited that in :v:
Nope, was there since the beginning, 2112 is one of my favourite songs, I had to include it
The very last "the restless dream of yooooouuth" and the synth section afterward in Subdivisions gives me the chills Every time
2112 is the best song, but Permanent Waves is the best album imo
necromancer > all fuck yalls

In fact, it's my favourite song of all time. What makes it so excellent for me is the progression, and how the instruments tie up so perfectly with the lyrics and the mood of the song.

Aside from maybe Karn Evil 9.
I have to agree that Cygnus X-1 is one of my favorite songs of all time. That goddamn ending riff is just so chaotic and Geddy's vocals just make it even more awesome.
Probably the most ideal band: Talented guitarist Talented bassist/singer Talented drummer/songwriter Still making music to this day Overall great music No personality clashes Guns n Roses, The Eagles, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, etc. should learn from them.
Guys, what would be the best album to start with? I want the best experience possible.
Guys, what would be the best album to start with?
Guys, what would be the best album to start with? I want the best experience possible.
to me, the best experience is starting from the beginning and going forward but that being said you could get permanent waves as a good start
RUSH is one of my favorite bands of all time. While I enjoy their early work, my two favorite albums at this time are Power Windows and Hold Your Fire. But in all, RUSH is awesome in all of their albums! :D
I would kill to have them play at the Super Bowl or something.
