This show started in 2009 on the CW. The same channel that brings you Arrow and Supernatural. The show about, yes, a girl who unwittingly falls for a vampire. This is definitely not Twilight, and it's no more of a chick flick than any other drama you'd watch. It has tons of action, plot twists, and even humor. I've been trying to get people to watch this, and not surprisingly they all refuse. The first 3 seasons are on Netflix instant. I'd recommend that you give it a shot and watch it. The first few episodes are slightly cheesy, but not even halfway into the first season you will get hooked. The production quality and the plot are great, and I personally think the acting is good. Stefan Salvatore - Damned to eternity since the Civil War, Stefan refuses to feed off of humans. After running into Elena in a chance encounter, he begins to obsess over her. The catch is, Elena is completely identical to Stefan's long dead girlfriend, Katherine, resulting in his relationship with Elena. Damon Salvatore - The evil brother. Was also in love with Katherine, and blames Stefan for her death. Having promised him an eternity of misery, he follows him back to their hometown of Mystic Falls, leaving a trail of death and destruction. He is witty and charming, and provides about 90% of the show's humor. Has enough self control to drink human blood without having to kill, but he doesn't care. Elena Gilbert - 17 year old high school student. Recently lost her parents in a car crash. She is able to hold it together better than her brother. Becomes the focus of Stefan's obsession. Other main characters: Jeremy Gilbert - Elena's little brother, turns to drugs in the wake of the accident. Matt Donovan - Elena's best friend from childhood, and her ex-boyfriend. Still has feelings for her. Vicki Donovan - Matt's sister. Part of the junkie group at school. Jeremy is obsessed with her. Tyler Lockwood - The mayor's son. Easily angered and often fights with Jeremy because of Vicki. I will update the OP soon. Don't want to put too many spoilers into the OP, because I'm fairly certain almost nobody here watches this. If you watch it please share your thoughts here. Give it a few episodes to pick up. You wont regret it.
Never seen Vampire Diaries, but I believe I may have gotten it mixed up with True Blood a while back and ended up watching and loving that show instead. Maybe I might check out Vampire Diaries though. [editline]1st March 2013[/editline] Plus this show may be like Gossip Girl in the sense that everyone thinks it's a girls show but it really isn't. And I actually liked Gossip Girl up until the rushed finale.

I'm now going to watch Gossip Girl just because I love everything I've seen on the CW so far.
Fantastic series with some of the best continuity I've ever seen. Don't let the admittedly terrible Pilot dissuade you from getting into it, it's not just all melodrama and even then, the melodrama is actually handled very well.

I personally think they do just as good a job as Chuck when it comes to picking music for dramatic or emotional scenes. Are you completely caught up? [editline]2nd March 2013[/editline] And the continuity is great after the whole summoning crows and fog thing. And the talking to people miles away thing. I'm glad they retconned those things though.
No, I'm just starting Season 3. As for the music, I don't care for it really. Liked it better in Chuck.
The end of season 2 and beginning of 3 really shocked me. With [sp]Stefan and all.[/sp] I've been dying to talk to someone about the plot twists and such, so feel free to come here with updates. So what got you started on the show?
I frequent the something awful forums and saw a topic on it praising it, so I checked it out. Initially, watched it for the cute girls and then I got drawn into the lore with the awesome doppleganger antics and Damon Salvatore being awesome. I'll try to come in and do some updates every now and again, if only to possibly garner interest in the series for people.
YOU WILL NOT GET ME TO WATCH THIS. STOP IT.
Unless you have some strange distaste for great writing then you have no reason not to check it out. Get the notion that it's Twilight: The Series out of your head because they couldn't be more tonally different, hell, it even makes fun of Twilight.

Just messing wth him.
Yeah, alright fair enough. Anyways, holy fuck. The opening to Season 3 is just brutal with [sp]Stefan's dismembering of his victims.[/sp] One thing I really don't like about the show is Elena's brother Jeremy, he's immensely boring and seems to just be an angsty little baby 24/7. Man, he even manages to make [sp]seeing ghosts[/sp] terrible... doesn't really help that they're [sp]ex-girlfriends[/sp] either.

It's not everyday good guys and bad guys make total polar shifts on a tv show.[/sp] I've always liked Jeremy. But yeah he is pretty angsty. He steps up in importance come season 4.
God damn, this show. Just watched episode 5, felt like a season finale. Total god damn nuttery. [sp]Elena and Damon have an unhinged Stefan 'protecting' them, Jeremy and Katherine went to revive some legendary vampire hunter guy, Tyler's a hybrid now... god damn.[/sp] Also this song is awesome. The villains on this show are really great, the writers give no fucks.
I love Klaus. They're actually making an entire TV series/spinoff called "The Originals."
I love Klaus. They're actually making an entire TV series/spinoff called "The Originals."
Yeah, I heard. No clue what it could possibly be about aside from a group of vamps just murdering everyone for 45 mins a week. Klaus and Rebekha are pretty awesome though, they both just do what they want without giving a single fuck.

I mean all the villains have a tendency to do that, but she especially makes me mad.
