It means that this fine upstanding lady or gentleman, whom recently had the pleasure of joining our fine community, per chance happened upon this exciting video and decided, as their first act of kindness, to share it with us in the hope that we may enjoy too.

I really don't think it's as much of a big deal as you make it out to be.

So what you're saying is they didn't join to advertise

Not particularly, but it wouldn't really offend me whether or not they joined to post something they made, tbh.

Advertising does not contribute to the community.
If we'd allow advertising, this place would be a dumping ground just like the News Node but with arguably worse content and none of the advertisers would post anything other than their dumb videos.

Originally I was saying all that to have fun jab at someone that joined to advertise. like in literally every thread I see that's similar everyone does that, so I'm doing as they do.
You've been here since 2010 and you still don't know about joining to advertise?
how is that even possible :v: Has someone else been posting for you?

ff we would have half the threads per page have no posts, and if any of them did it'd be people complaining about how bad the video is
like the entire section would be shit on
Aside from the whole advertising thing, the video is surprisingly pretty well made

Good enough videos can regardless of whether it's coming from a brand new user or someone who already has a shit ton of posts, and honestly, depending on what kind of quality such a video has, I'm pretty sure it can be capable of being more contributing than a post with just letters forming sentences.
You may as well use the same logic for first-time users who join to show off some kind of a piece of art they did for their first post and argue that they're just doing that to advertise their art gallery or some shit like that.

It's more of an issue of trust than anything. It's not like the rule came to being without reason. We had plenty of people that might as well be bots.
By all means, creativity is encouraged but it's common courtesy make a few posts prior to making a thread. For constructive criticism, it's better to post the video in a relevant megathread.
Even then, the rules are absolute in this regard and he should've read them before posting. There is a giant warning during thread creation and he flagrantly ignored it.
