A British national living in Sierra Leone has tested positive for the deadly Ebola Virus, but the UK Department of Health has played down the news.
Professor John Watson, deputy chief medical officer, said the overall risk for Britons remained relatively low.
There have been dozens of false alarms across Europe, the Daily Telegraph reported.
In Berlin, 600 people were quarantined for two after a false alarm over a suspected case of Ebola.
It comes just days after US aid workers, Dr Kent Brantly, 33, and Nancy Writebol, 60, were released from hospital in Atlanta after being cured.
I fear the death toll is just going to keep rising. It's totally out of control, and it's about time they've got tougher with forcing quarantine.
Why the fuck do people even visit West Africa in times like this?

i kinda feel like this ebola shit is starting to be a pretty big deal
am i wrong in thinking that? all the news i read about it just gets worse and worse

It happens with every disease and it's happened with ebola before.
It happens with every disease and it's happened with ebola before.
not like this. the previous largest ebola outbreak in history killed 280 people. 1,427 people have died from this one so far and it's just getting worse.
Let's just hope it actually does get better and it doesn't end up killing millions. If it stops in the thousands, we'll be lucky.
nvm
i learned new word today
They jail people for having ebola? Won't that just make people hide more and not even try to seek for help. I hope I understood the title wrong.
No, it's for people hiding the infected from the authorities, which hampers the efforts to prevent the disease spreading.
Why the fuck do people even visit West Africa ever?
ftfy
Let's just hope it actually does get better and it doesn't end up killing millions. If it stops in the thousands, we'll be lucky.
Its not going to make it to a million or even a quarter of that.

media fear-mongering just like every other big epidemic
The only real issue with this epidemic is that the virus could evolve, otherwise we should be OK

You didn't misunderstand it, you just completely ignored three words of it.
I'm not worried at all, I don't exchange bodily fluids with anyone so even if everyone dies I will survive.
Ebola has like 0 threat to developed nations. This shit is only spreading because of their awful healthcare, sewage, and just general way of life (Some of which comes down to poor development, some of which is simply traditional like the way they handle corpses).
The problem is no matter how much you hammer this into their heads a lot of the people there are too uneducated to know how big of a deal this is. A lot of people think this is just a bunch of white doctors trying to steal people's organs and humanitarian workers aren't even being allowed into some villages due to hostility from the locals.
It's kind of sad and just shows how shitty of a place West Africa is.

It's just no matter how much they ban bush meat, how much they quarentine, how many posters they put up, there's likely to be people there that believe it's all a myth or some disease made by the government or anything besides what it actually is and people will catch it.
Maybe it can get better. They've got a lot of work to do though before it starts getting better.
Its not going to make it to a million or even a quarter of that.
I'll honestly be surprised if it kills more than 25,000.
I'll honestly be surprised if it kills more than 25,000.
it's going to kill at least 25,000 people.
it's going to kill at least 25,000 people.
As far as I know, the last outbreak to kill 25,000 (not including AIDS/HIV which has been ongoing since it started) was in the 1960's with the flu outbreak in Asia.
it's going to kill at least 25,000 people.
I very much doubt it
You didn't misunderstand it, you just completely ignored three words of it.
i misunderstood and read it again multiple times and then asked because i was still confused
now i know that harbour meant something else than i thought

I'm not talking about the guy in question, but in general. What does West Africa offer other than open fields, poverty and diseases?

More diseases.
