Earlier, Lockyer Valley Regional Council has activated its disaster coordination centre as torrential rain from ex-cyclone Oswald falls across the area west of Brisbane.

Meanwhile, the body of an elderly man has been recovered from floodwaters in the tornado-hit central Queensland city of Bundaberg. The man's body was recovered from Burnett Heads, Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said. It is the state's first flood-related death, since the remnants of ex-tropical cyclone Oswald began hammering the Queensland coast five days ago.
read more: http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/environment/weather/queensland-records-first-flood-death-as-statewide-catastrophe-declared-20130127-2deip.html This honestly isn't good news, if this turns out like 2011 again then it'll be equally as terrible some more things:
Premier Campbell Newman said Queensland would need a lot of help from the federal government to recover from the unfolding flood disaster. Mr Newman met with the state’s disaster managers on Sunday afternoon as cities along the central coast flooded, and the southeast corner braced for cyclonic winds and flooding rains. Before the meeting in Brisbane, he toured the tornado-hit area of Bargara.‘‘What’s been hit has been really smashed bad,’’ he told Seven News. Mr Newman said the damage to one family’s home was ‘‘terrible’’. ‘‘All their possessions are totally soaked in water, the roof is half ripped off, their caravan smashed, their car smashed and debris all over their yard,’’ he said. He said he was very aware of the flood crisis unfolding in Bundaberg, where a flood could be bigger than the one of 2010/11 and where whole suburbs had been evacuated. He said some of the properties that went under two years ago would go under again, and that was a heart-breaking prospect for those affected.
I bet Newman caused this
I know it's one of those > things but it's pretty relevant
Fuck, Australia, how many times do you guys have to go through this?
Fuck, Australia, how many times do you guys have to go through this?
Like every year? Cyclones and flooding are pretty normal up north, fires are pretty normal down south
but mass flooding really isnt normal every year though
I don't think my backyard has enough water in it yet. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/gex7jOV.jpg[/thumb]
every january for the past 3 years, queensland has flooded what on earth is going on
While the flooding might be worse than the last big one, it's also happening over a much slower period of time, and that's helping. Last time my block was cut off from the rest of the suburb within a day, this time it's been going for a while and it still hasn't raised the river level that much.
every january for the past 3 years, queensland has flooded what on earth is going on
Global cooling. on another note water is seeping through the bricks at my place cause its so heavy and constant, left my pc for five.minutes, came back and it was in a puddle.
Oh shit, I hope the body wasn't my uncle. I haven't heard from him and I'm kind of worried now.
the creek by my house is actually rising which is something that didn't happen in 2011 we may need to host people from our street and also our grandparents because there roads will be cut off if it rises
Oh shit, I hope the body wasn't my uncle. I haven't heard from him and I'm kind of worried now.
Did your uncle live on a boat?
Mary River is flooded badly. This morning a bullshark was found swimming in the Woolworths carpark :v:
see what happens when you let r18 games be sold?
see what happens when you let r18 games be sold?
Queensland is the only state that hasn't allowed it yet.
Queensland is the only state that hasn't allowed it yet.
God is angry at Newman, and so is everyone else in Queensland
Queensland is the only state that hasn't allowed it yet.
Shhhh
Can't wait for the states finances to get even worse and Newman to continue to blame it on Bligh instead of the annual floods
This was taken earlier just a few mins away from me in town; http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10151240024083321 Pretty crazy out there. This is the view from my window;
My town got hit last night, this is what the shoreline was like earlier today: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151235122296629 It's flooded pretty bad out near my Aunt and Uncle's place at Laidley too.
tbh that just looks like a really rainy day to someone who doesn't know what it normally looks like
typical rainy day
I can't tell if that's rough, rapids-y dirty water or if it's just a dirty lot with dead weeds and grass.
probably both
tbh that just looks like a really rainy day to someone who doesn't know what it normally looks like
Yeah I know, it's actually quite a peaceful pic. But at that very same moment, the wind keeps spiking and those trees are practically swaying sideways... Trees coming down, and the dam at the far left there was totally empty just yesterday. If it were a video, you'd feel it - all the water towards the bottom of the pic is basically running like rapids. The real damage is at the front though - I had a carport my Jeep was under that just 'exploded' from the inside because of the wind - the legs all flew off into the air and the whole canopy collapsed down on itself, it was fucked up and it happened right in front of me. Then while digging trenches to save my other carport (and the precious beamer!!!) a tree snapped in two right above me - I tried to defend myself by throwing my arms up to stop it but all that did was tear a giant hole down my right underarm. So there I am - gusting bitch ass winds, torn up arm, hammering in star pickets and reinforcing my carport while freezing soaking wet, flicking blood on absolutely everything... Hell of a day mate, our property's a total mess and it's even worse in town.
Queensland where? Can't you guys just tell what country the article is about?
I don't think my backyard has enough water in it yet. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/gex7jOV.jpg[/thumb]
I know there's more important stuff and all, but good God, I would love to live in such natural beauty. To look into your backyard and not see the dirty smudge of our civilization, oh, what a life.
Queensland where? Can't you guys just tell what country the article is about?
Fairly obvious its Australia since the first couple of replies mentioned it and why should I, should we make threads that start with Texas in America etc? No.
Queensland where? Can't you guys just tell what country the article is about?
If anyone is talking about Queensland its in Australia.
