A routine trip to a local diner allowed Danville's Police Chief to serve a side of a justice to some would-be robbers. According to the Danville Advocate Messenger, police say two suspects were sitting inside their car outside of Brothers BBQ discussing their plans to rob the restaurant. Unfortunately for them, one of the men had accidentally pocket dialed police dispatch. Serendipitously, Police Chief Tony Gray was enjoying dinner and talking to owner Mike Southerland when he got a phone call. “They start to walk out together, then Tony gets a call — I see Tony’s police face come on, so I knew something was up,” Southerland told the Advocate Messenger. Gray was told that dispatch had picked up an accidental call and could hear people discussing robbing a business. They were triangulating the location from key words, including the mention of Chief Gray's name. “There was some conversation about when they should do it, they might be recognized if they do it in Danville, and I think they did talk about some different locations …” Gray said, noting that he hasn’t heard the actual tape yet. “Somewhere in the conversation my name was brought up.” Chief Gray and other responding officers searched the parking lot until they found the men in their car. One of them had a mask on his person.
http://www.lex18.com/story/34038690/and-you-thought-your-day-was-bad-suspects-pocket-dial-911-discuss-plans-to-rob-restaurantwhere-police-chief-is-eating
Fucking morons, good thing nothing escalated. [editline]shiet[/editline]
The men, identified as Robert Bourne and David Grigsby, have only been charged with public intoxication.
Ah, they were high. Figures.
Jesus how unlucky are those guys? I mean it's good they where caught but that's a serious amount of bad luck on their part.
Ah, they were high. Figures.
Yeah man, after smoking a few zoots I always pocket dial the police
Yeah man, after smoking a few zoots I always pocket dial the police
common knowledge to place your phone in your back pocket in a weird fashion when getting high
That's some next level bad luck, damn.
Yeah man, after smoking a few zoots I always pocket dial the police
Did you know that you can get high with various things other than weed?
Is it illegal to discuss doing a crime in private but never acting it out?

Chances are they would have been caught anyway and now they're being charged with a lot less than robbery
Is it illegal to discuss doing a crime in private but never acting it out?
yeah it's called a conspiracy
What are the fucking odds? Also, is it weird that I have never pocket dialed anyone? Even back when phones had physical buttons.
Is it illegal to discuss doing a crime in private but never acting it out?
If you're shooting shit with your friend and you're like "dude we should rob a bank", thats one thing. But if you're discussing the location, who's there, when they're there, how you'd do it, from where, when, and to get what... You know, if you're planning a robbery... Then its conspiracy. Bonus points for the presence of the mask.

Any lawyers on here, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I thought smartphones were supposed to end pocket dials, can't quite comprehend how it still happens.
Yeah. It's been awhile since I've taken Criminal Law, but I believe the mask constitutes a Significant Step. The mask is irrelevant at that point.
What are the fucking odds? Also, is it weird that I have never pocket dialed anyone? Even back when phones had physical buttons.
I think it's easier now to pocket dial due to the Emergency Call shortcuts the new phones are starting to provide.
