thisi s really awesome tbh
that's crazy. it'd be mindblowing seeing yourself in 3D realtime. looking at yourself in a mirror or a video isn't the same, I've always wondered how other people legit see me.
the holopresence is cool on its own but recording and replaying memories these days we all have cameras on for any important events in our lives, easy to extrapolate to having 3d mapping at events as well in a not too distant future but imagine visiting a site of an important memory, and replaying the memory, just sitting in attendance at your own wedding or something it seems so weird to even think of it yet here it is, the technology is all there
What sort of internet connection do you need to make it work though?
The end bit about memories is phenomenal but depressing at the same time.
This technology is great but I can't help but think of some really sad situations that this will be used in. Imagine a friend losing someone dear, replaying the last recorded 3D interaction of them over and over again. It would be one hell of a way to store certain memories.
The end bit about memories is phenomenal but depressing at the same time.
made me think of how heartbreaking and crushing it'd be to revisit past relationship memories ya know those mornings you'd wake up together and it was bliss? could totally see myself being dumb enough to replay those memories like a scrub, and ending up an emotional wreck [editline]26th March 2016[/editline] I'll try and use it to replay cool memories, like when you take a morning dump and the poop comes out in one solid go. memories like that are chill.
That end bit is like a few steps away from Minority Report.
That end bit is like a few steps away from Minority Report.
Yeah, that part where Tom Cruise's character replays the scene with his wife is exactly like this. Also reminds me of this scene from "Legends of Tomorrow". (Apologies for the distorted audio)
It doesn't record the data from your fucking brain.
Well I mean some people fall asleep together in Skype calls so it could be possible for that to wind up recorded
It doesn't record the data from your fucking brain.
haha I know, I mean imagine you do a recording of something like that. or a birthday. whatever
If you're recording a poop I'm more concerned though
The end bit about memories is phenomenal but depressing at the same time.
That bit gave me strong Black Mirror vibes
people have security cams running in their homes, i don't doubt for a second people will have 24/7 3d mapping as well
You should watch Black Mirror's The Entire History of You
Reminded me of that, too. Scary really.
The fact that this technology exists is mindblowing. It's working, they've made it work, and that's extremely cool to me. And want to know where my mind went? Recreating live performances. In a few years, perhaps even a decade or so realistically speaking, we can have a whole stage set up with these cameras, recording the performance. And then have an audience, in a totally different theater wearing Hololens, watching that performance arguably live, or even a recording. Hell, you can sell the data of the recording that people can play back on their own. I could watch it on my desk, even. I'm having future shock, honestly.
They finally showed showed footage through the hololens and it's exactly as I said it would be, there isn't a lcd layer to get black it's the same as google glass.

The entire time, I'm just imagining Kay's little holographic crime scene recreation gizmo in Ace Attorney Investigations. That game was only about six years ago, and even back then I thought, "Yeah, I get that AA takes place a couple decades into the future, but something like this I still can't believe would be coming so soon." And yet here we are - we're getting there.
AR is probably the future of display tech, because it will have the most flexibility.
Yeah, I mentioned this in another thread lately, but I prefer AR over VR because AR better integrates with our reality, superimposing all the virtual stuff onto our own physical space - it's a lot more intuitive. Besides, considering we already have stuff like cameras in VR headsets like Vive so that you can see what you're doing and make sure you're not actually bumping into stuff, it seems like AR is where everything is actually heading anyway.
Imagine downloading a live performance to watch at home but it's really a joke/screamer video. How fucking terrifying would that be
Screamers are bad enough now. I'd shit myself if I had to deal with them in VR/AR :v:
the future is here and the porn is great
I can see this being used a lot in forensics to recreate crime scenes
I know it's a pretty huge step up but imagine a full movie recorded this way. You can be a character in the world and shit. Or like a "found footage" horror thing where you're viewing security footage recorded with this technology of a family's home and some creepy murderer comes in and snoops around, and the family comes home without checking their videos and he's just hiding until he can act... I feel like people can be really creative with this, I can't wait to see it advance further.
You should watch Black Mirror's The Entire History of You
I watched this episode and it was amazing, I also think Toby Kebbell is an incredible actor. Is the rest of the Black Mirror series worth a watch? I have no idea what it's about. Do episodes follow on from each other, or is each episode an entirely separate story?
Doesn't the Division have something like this as well? It seems to be a common science fiction device but The Division was the most recent one I remember. I think they called it Echo.
Screamers are bad enough now. I'd shit myself if I had to deal with them in VR/AR :v:
Oh my god, the freakiest creepypasta creations coming to VR, creeping around the corner or looking through your window? Yes please. And no I'm not talking about fucking slenderman or the lazier more popular creations.
