It happened Saturday at the Dixie Gun and Knife Show, a quarterly event that usually draws thousands of people. State agriculture department spokesman Brian Long says a 12-gauge shotgun discharged while its owner unzipped its case for a law enforcement officer to check it at a security entrance. Two bystanders were hit by shotgun pellets and taken to a hospital. A retired deputy sheriff suffered a slight hand injury. Long says the shotgun's owner, 36-year-old Gary Lynn Wilson of Wilmington, brought the weapon to the show to find a private buyer. Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison says it's too early to know whether Wilson might be charged. The show shut down early Saturday but will reopen Sunday.
Well it would have been absurd for him to sell an unloaded shotgun
Rule #1: Keep the firearm unloaded at all times, safety on and make sure the muzzle is not pointed at anyone Goddamn, these people need to grow some sense.
Who puts a loaded gun away in its case holy shit.
Not only is leaving a gun loaded irresponsible and dangerous, it's also bad for the gun... springs fail under tension, my cousin had 3-4 magazines for his AR-15 go bad because he left them loaded - I imagine you'd have the same issue in any internal magazine. You'd think at least one of the two reasons would get through to these people. e: apparently this is false. Knowledge is power! I was actually at the fairgrounds when this happened, but I wasn't at the gun show. This probably wouldn't have made the news if it wasn't for the huge gun control brouhaha that has seized the country's interest lately.
it's all that fluoride they put in the drinking water that dumbs people downl ike this ban fluoride, not guns.

In my opinion if you are the cause of an otherwise preventable firearms incident you should have your license revoked or at least have to go through some kind of firearms safety class before your gun is returned to you.
Just bought two tickets to the gunshow, and I'm not givin' 'em to ya; I'm goin' with your tickets! *falls asleep* Wha--?
gunfire erupted at a gun show
No, really?
No, really?
It should definitely be federally mandated that firearms remain unloaded at gun shows, unless there's a designated range some distance away from the main event. e: I'm not sure why you guys are rating him dumb, he was clearly joking.
Wow, I live here and I haven't even heard rumors of anything happening. Too bad so many people are growing foolish and corrupt by the violent video game business....I guess we'll just have to ban these stupid mass-shooting simulators. (/sarcasm for you 'tards out there)
Owner should be charged. He should be held responsible for the transportation of the weapon.
It shouldn't even be legal to keep a weapon stowed in a bag while loaded.
It shouldn't even be legal to keep a weapon stowed in a bag while loaded.
In general I'd agree with you but allowances need to be made for concealed carry firearms and such.
In general I'd agree with you but allowances need to be made for concealed carry firearms and such.
I think there is a difference between concealed carry and storing a loaded gun in a bag.
In general I'd agree with you but allowances need to be made for concealed carry firearms and such.
No one needs a loaded firearm of any type at a gun show, that's just asking for it in my opinion.
That guy is all kinds of stupid.
No one needs a loaded firearm of any type at a gun show, that's just asking for it in my opinion.
Right, that's absolutely correct, but he said that it shouldn't be allowed anywhere, which is taking it a step too far. [editline]20th January 2013[/editline] since that would cover purses and, uh, manbags??
and you wonder why people want these things banned
and you wonder why people want these things banned
The relatively minor incidence of accidents compared to the amount of firearms in circulation does not warrant a ban, though improvements in firearms safety campaigns are certainly welcome.
Well, it shouldn't because it should be common fucking sense.
Unfortunately you'll find that most Americans fear the judge far more than the loss of their own life. Personal responsibility has packed its bags and left the US.
I was expecting something ironic, like a booth collapsing on people. But, no, just some old fashioned clueless gun accident.
Well, it shouldn't because it should be common fucking sense.
Newsflash: People dont have common sense. Have you ever worked with the public.
The man definitely needs to be charged. It's negligent gun owners like this that we need to start cracking down on, they cause a bunch of the issues we have.
This guy always keeps his gun loaded, just in case.
Unfortunately you'll find that most Americans fear the judge far more than the loss of their own life. Personal responsibility has packed its bags and left the US.
And yet there's a large amount of people who are more protective of the second amendment, than the first. AND yet again, pro-gun people wonder why many other people want to see guns completely removed from the public, except for law enforcement, military, hunting and target shooting. And even then there'll be tight restrictions and regular check-up's involved.
How legit is selling guns and guns shows anyway? Can anyone attend and just purchase a gun with no checks?
How legit is selling guns and guns shows anyway? Can anyone attend and just purchase a gun with no checks?
Gun shows can rip you off, or you can find a great deal. It all varies. If you buy from a dealer there, you have to fill out paperwork and do a standard background check (unless you have a carry permit, which you already go through a background check when you get that permit.) Private sales are different- no paperwork required or a background check.
