A Russian lawmaker has said the ‘gay propaganda’ law will remain enforced during the Sochi Winter Olympic Games in 2014. Vitaly Milonov, co-sponsor of the ‘non-traditional relationships’ bill, said the government cannot decide when to selectively enforce the law. It comes as the International Olympic Committee said the Russian government had ‘assured’ them all athletes and spectators will be safe from arrest. Speaking to Interfax and as translated by GSN, Milonov said: ‘I have not heard any comments from the government of the Russian Federation but I know it is acting in accordance with Russian law. - See more at: http://www.gaystarnews.com/article/russian-lawmaker-we-will-arrest-gay-athletes-tourists-olympic-games300713#sthash.5ev1CnCZ.dpuf
The International Olympic Committee should either pick another country or cancel the games entirely if it's too late. You can't host an international event in a nation where human rights abuses are routinely committed and will interfere with the games.
This could be a good excuse for the US to boycott Russia because of the Snowden thing, just say its because of the gays being arrested.
The International Olympic Committee should either pick another country or cancel the games entirely if it's too late
well probably not cancel them but definitely try and get them somewhere else
This won't go well with the IOC
You can't host an international event in a nation where human rights abuses are routinely committed and will interfere with the games.
Put it in Manchuria, I'm sure Harbin would like the tourism.
Welp looks like it's not going to happen in Russia (hopefully) this is just downright idiotic and backwards
Let's have it in the UK again.
have it at my place i'll make punch
Let's have it in the UK again.
Winter olympics. Never held in the UK btw
Do they choose a Plan B country just in case for situations like this?
Give them to Greece.
Lets not get carried away by big mouthed talk - this dude who it's coming from is a little more than a member of the Parliament; he's not part of the executive power, it's not in his jurisdiction at all, not even distantly, to decide who ends up arrested or not. If the government assured the Olympic Committee that there will be no arrests, I am inclined to believe that more than this faggot trying to make tough guy statements from position in which he has no right to talk about it. (It's still bloody fucking retarded that Russians have to regularly deal with it and I think I could get behind boycotting of the games)
the Olympic Games needs to go somewhere els if Russia wants to be Barbaric and live in 1500 instead of 2013 then should not have the games there maybe we should start an Online Petition or something sure it might most likely at first but we can bring a more bigger a awareness.
This could be a good excuse for the US to boycott Russia because of the Snowden thing, just say its because of the gays being arrested.
I wish they would. Boycotting the Olympics is actually a pretty vocal political action, especially because it isn't frequently used by major world powers.
Let's have it in the UK again.
That's actually a good idea :v:
Not to be cynical, but what is Gay Star News?
The issue will become if the Olympics continue and when they start, athletes start getting arrested, then well....
What a twist it would be if snowden is gay
What a twist it would be if snowden is gay
But he is gay. Gay for the truth.
If they don't cancel them then there's some sort of corruption going on.
maybe if everyone makes a big deal of this they might cancel or go somewhere els
There's a sort of hypocrisy when someone defends homosexuals by calling someone else a faggot.
Well there's people being a faggot and then there's the harsh word of "faggot". Welcome to the internet.
Not to be cynical, but what is Gay Star News?
Fringe online news outlet dealing with LGBT stories. They're usually an okay source, but they do get carried away sometimes with the "DAMN BREEDERS WANT YOU IN CAGES". It's generally a good idea to check their facts against another outlet, but most of the time they're legit.
IOC really should at least say something about this. It's getting ridiculous. Fuck, even the Nazis stood down and let minorities compete back in 1936. You're running the risk of literally being worse than Hitler here. Well, on Olympic terms I mean.
Do they choose a Plan B country just in case for situations like this?
Vancouver 2014?
who the hell would even want to go to russia anyway? give it to a new country please
Let's have it in the UK again.
Where would it be? Xscape?
G There's a sort of hypocrisy when someone defends homosexuals by calling someone else a faggot.
I don't recognize the word as something that should have sexual subtext. Historically, it didn't use to have it, and nowadays it's losing it again. In case I have offended anybody else but than the politician who can go fuck himself anyway, I apologize for that, but I doubt that's the case.
