Prolific voice actor Nolan North (Uncharted's Nathan Drake) is taking on the Ghost in Destiny, reports Game Informer. He'll voice the AI companion in The Taken King and, no joke, the original game too -- the dialogue is being re-recorded for consistency. Talk about the nuclear option.
"North echoes some of the cadences and quirks established by the character's original voice actor, but his line delivery is hard to immediately connect to his familiar heroic tone," according to the site.
wonder how much money they wasted on voice actors
I'm cool with this. Dinklebot's delivery was so boring I ended up not listening to almost anything he said.
Still waiting for the game where Nolan North voices everyone in it.
Is there a comparison?
Totally worth it? I guess. Just seems like such a drastic move for something that's not really going to improve the game all that much.

Nolan North the game.
Steve Blum the game
Troy Baker the game.
A game that has all three of these actors and no one else.
I wonder just how much money this game has wasted on actors.
Dinkledong's VA was decent at best, and that was only at certain points. For the most parts, it was just dull listening to him saying... whatever. I hope Nolan can do better.

I hope we eventually reach the video game equivalent of the one scene in Gundam Wing where every character is voiced by the dude that did Duo's voice. :v:
dinklebot was fine. what ruined him was that they took out all of his quirky lines hinted at in the previews and trailers and gave him nothing but boring mission related dialogue that would be a chore to hear from any VA really
Dinklage phoned it in super hard, its good they're replacing it all.
will they be replacing the gameplay designers as well?
Good. Dinklage was complete shit in it.
As someone that hasn't played Destiny himself, only seen some footage, do wonder how much of the VA was Dinklage just phoning it in and how much was just bad material or instructions like "talk err neutral like a robot".

I'm more than certain that after the game's bomb, Dinkle decided not to have any more to do with this game.

Honestly it felt pointless, like Dinkle was only onboard for name value only.
HEY GUYS, YOUR ROBOT COMPANION IS THAT MIDGET FROM GAME OF THRONES!
RIP dinklebot. Hello nolanbot.
This game has no story, so the casting was quite pointless. And he sounded really disinterested in the game too.

I'd wager it's a bit of both. Destiny has a lot of great top-of-the-line voice talent in it, but they ALL did poorly because of shitty directions and scripts. And even then they were featured soooooo fucking little that they're completely irrelevant
And naturally, in a situation like that, I'd say they'd be more likely to phone it in.
rip greatest line in destiny

replacing voice actors wont make the game any better lol

Yeah, there's John Dimaggio and Nathan Fillion in the game, but you'd never know because they was played as NPC's in the tower. Really good actors but bad places to put them in.

If I'm not mistaken John Dimaggio plays the robot weapon vendor in the tower and you'd never know because it's not one of his more recognizable voices.
Voice acting must a booming biz!!!

Not that you missed anything plot important or relevant anyway..
if they wanted a celebrity voice actor they should have gone with Michael Fassbender instead of dinkelberry
will they be replacing the gameplay designers as well?
I'd make a quip about replacing the writing team too but since they never hired one to begin with they're not really able to replace them.

They hired a person to write jokes for the game, then proceeded
to never use them.

from what I understand the expansion will be including a huge list of retcons/upgrades to the game at its core. If they're going so far as to replace voice actors for old story bits that people continually say fell flat at a gameplay level as well, you have to wonder if they're actually upgrading the old story missions to make sure changes happening to core mechanics don't end up becoming exploitable, and in the process maaybe tweaking it up so they're more involved. I mean, the story missions DO have high-level challenge modes, so I'd expect at least a new chain of ultra intense versions of the core levels
Got Destiny for my birthday back in December. Couldn't play it for like 2 months because the in-game updater kept canceling the download because what it considered timed out was normal speed for my internet. Finally got to play it around March. Game was so boring that the person who bought it for me ended up playing it more than I did. Can't play it anymore because I don't feel like paying for PS+ because I literally have like, 2-3 other vaguely interesting games with online (GTA V's basically grind simulator, and the other two are COD games which suck). Aren't too many other games out, let alone ones that actually interest me.
Summary: Destiny was a disappointment and the fact that it's always online (Playstation + at that) is irritating. I mean seriously, I have more interaction with the floorboards beneath my feet right now than I ever had with other players.

...Uh, yeah? Though it seems to be dominated by a relatively small number of people compared to other industries. If you look at some of the "big-name" voice actors, they often have dozens and dozens of voices to their credit, whether major roles or minor.

Both these actors are big Halo and Bungie fans. Dinklage though, he just seems like he was thrown in for his name and not much else.
