• I'm not sure if I should convert from vegetarianism or not.

All of my life, I have been a vegetarian. I have only been a vegetarian recently because my mum brought me up like it. I don't know why I want to be vegetarian, but I have been all my life. I am thinking that if I incorporated meat into my diet, I could become much healthier. At the moment, I'm 240lbs and probably under 5'9, I want to lose weight, and the only thing stopping me is the fact that my mum is a vegetarian, and I don't want to sort of disappoint her. She's vegetarian because she loves animals. Would eating meat give any advantages, and should I overcome my emotional attachment to vegetarianism and change?
Let's ask this, how physically active are you?
I go biking for a couple miles every few days, I have PE at school on tuesdays and wednesdays, I go to school naturally. But I snack a lot.

I don't think switching to meat will help you with your diet that much, seeing that usually people switch to vegetarism to help their weight loss, but if you really worry what your mom does if you switch to meat you really need to man up And dieting to get fit almost never works, you need to exercise
This really seems like something you should decide for yourself. If your mom is unhappy about you eating cheeeseburgers, oh well. It's your choice mate.
I'd say a vegetarian diet would help you losing weight (so don't convert)
Thanks for the quick replies, I see that it would be wise to just exercise more and eat less. But I can't motivate myself, every time I try, I fail. Any tips on motivation? And before someone says women, I tried that motivation before, it didn't work.
Parents who incorporate things like this into their children are disgusting, especially if they won't respect their decision if they don't want it.
Listen to music while you exercise, it gives a ton of motivation to me atleast.
So you've never eaten a beautifully prepared steak? Try one. Make your mind up after that.
And before someone says women, I tried that motivation before, it didn't work.
Then try men ? v:v:v More seriously, staying vegetarian will probably help you during your diet, but that really depends of what kind of vegetarian food you eat, I have a vegetarian cousin that doesn't do any exercise but doesn't eat much so she's in perfect shape.

Treat yourself to something (be it a good steak, new game, or whatever) every time you reach one of your goals. As for meat, be sure to stick to lean stuff and eat it in moderation if you want to lose weight. [editline]19th June 2012[/editline] Also, finding a workout partner makes workouts MUCH more effective.
Im a veggie to and im a bit fat, Its because we eat so much pasta instead of getting all the nutricion we should from meat (although it can be found in veggie food aswell)
Convert :v: like it's a religion or something.
Try some good sausages then decide if you want to stay a veggie, that's how my friend was converted.
eating the shit they feed you at mcdonalds won't help you lose weight. try running.
Wow, vegetarianism and obesity are something that I've never heard in the same phrase until today. Anyway, meat does help you, as long as you don't eat too much of it. See, there's people that eat a lot of meat and are unhealthy. Then there's the vegetarians that tend to be healthy because they don't eat a shitload of meat nor do a lot of them smoke, drink or do any other form of drugs. But the best combo would be to eat everything: The food pyramid! As long as you keep eating everything in its right proportions, you'll start losing weight. Usually people that diet say "oh I can't just eat vegetables and fruit, that's horrifying" But since you've always done that, then I guess you just have to eat less. So just eat smaller proportions of what you usually eat (if, and only if what you're eating is healthy. If not, make the necessary changes for a good diet). You may feel hungry in the first few days, but your body will get used to it and adjust itself to your new diet in a couple of weeks. Meat isn't bad, it's a good font of proteins and it just tastes good. As for exercise, maybe try to exercise harder. PE classes will become a playground for children once you really push yourself to the limit. Just lift weights, go run, or do sports. I started off with a friend and we did this routine for a couple of weeks
5 Squats 10 Push Ups 5 Pull ups Repeat for as many times as you can for 20 minutes
And its really really intense. As for motivation, that's really up to you. I want to impress girls, but on the other hand, I'm doing it for myself. I was tired of being a weak slim fuck so I started working to get better. Every time I look at a hot guy :gay: I just get really jealous because I could be like them if I started working out sooner. Also, tell us about your experience with meat once you try it, that is, if you never tried it before.
There's a reason we have Canines. (The pointed teeth in your mouth) Meat is such a good source of protein. If you start eating more meat and go lift weights, you'll gain muscle and lose fat and lose weight. I did this (Except I always ate meat) and I went from a fat awkward idiot to a more confident and healthier person. Too me, there isn't really a reason for most people to be veggies unless their stomach can't handle meat, some other medical condition or health-wise reason, or they think eating meat is terrible and evil.

My parents are great people. They wouldn't mind if I were to eat meat at all, I hardly said that, they would happily allow me to make my own decision. I was just brought up as a vegetarian, so I must have some sort of emotional attachment to it.

Your parents are free to follow whatever crazy diet they want, but it's quite selfish to raise your kid like that. Let them make their own choices. If you want to lose weight, eat less carbs (bread, rice, pasta etc.) and more protein and vegetables. Eating (lean) meat is going to help you get the protein you need to avoid losing muscle mass while losing weight (you also have to work out).

Look at your body, you were designed to eat both, simple as that.
How the hell are you 240 pounds and never eat meat?! I guess a lot of potato chips. Go ahead and it meat. It's tasty. Don't worry about the animals; you didn't slaughter them. So don't let perfectly good meat go to waste.
As long as they let you do your decisions, then it's ok
Start working out more. Reward self with meat.

Have you ever eaten meat? If not I suggest against it. Meat takes a little extra effort to digest, so it might make you sick. Also, if you have been eating fake meat, real meat will probably gross you out since the texture and taste is pretty dramatically different.
