A Texas judge is being investigated over a shocking web video that appears to show him using a belt to whip his then 16-year-old daughter, who has cerebral palsy. Police in Rockport, Texas, called in the Texas Rangers, the state’s top lawmen, to investigate Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams, after people complained about the video, The Associated Press reported. The video, uploaded to YouTube on Oct. 27 by a person who claimed to be Adams’ daughter, Hillary, shows a man berating and savagely beating a teenage girl with a belt. The man hits her in the legs and sides of her body.
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/texas-judge-william-adams-investigation-video-aparently-shows-beating-disabled-daughter-article-1.971307#ixzz1cbKgZHGP Suffice it to say, he's done as a judge. Good riddance too. Not really late, as this is about the official response to the video so yeah.
Late. (User was banned for this post ("Useless post" - verynicelady))
Late.
Wow, thanks for the useful post that we don't have a rating for!
Here's the video if anyone's interested. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=006_1320194791
Wasn't the video of him beating his daughter only put up yesterday? Really awesome seeing things happen so fast.
Internet justice
Good. Watching that video, I have never been so god-damn mad at a human being before. Nice to see that SOMETHING is being done about it.
My father beat me like that as a child all the time. So did my aunt, uncle, grand parents, and so on. So did all of my friends and other young cousins and such. I see nothing wrong with what he did to his child. It was punishment for misbehaving. Although all of that just cause she downloaded some shit and she has a disability is a bit excessive. I only got whoopings like that for stealing and lying as a child. Thats normal Texas parenting if you ask me, as it says so in the bible.

What a fucking piece of shit. Poor girl.
apparently
Haha, okay media.
"She is disobediant so we must beat her harder" What the FUCK? [editline]3rd November 2011[/editline] I'd never say this lightly, but people like him need to die.
Adams is a family law judge, who presides over child abuse cases, The AP reported.
Irony
When confronted by a reporter for local KRIS-TV, the judge said: "It happened years ago. I apologized.”
"Hey, I assaulted someone, I said sorry though so it's alright!"
Does anyone else see the irony in the fact that it's the internet that's basically taking this bastard down, and that using the internet is the reason he was angry at his daughter in the first place?
"It's not as bad as it looks on tape," he added.
except for the way that a video doesn't change anything about how it looks
As a kid I've gotten spankings and honestly I think it's an effective way to keep your kids in check but, to an extent. I was uncomfortable watching this, he's constantly cursing at her, unrelentingly spanking her as she cries, he's not punishing her anymore he's just being cruel. Why was this being filmed? Did the girl film it?
There's a difference between corporal punishment for discipline and beating hte crap out of your child is two different things, especially when you continue doing so while they are screamign and crying, is excessive.
The bottom line is that BOTH are WRONG and INEFFECTIVE and absolutely no parent should be doing either one.
except it just makes your children hate you but yeah she filmed it
My parents spanked me, no where near this but, if I did something way out of line I'd get a good whack in the bottom. I love my parents :( Once your kid is in the teens though, hitting them is just a bad idea.
The bottom line is that BOTH are WRONG and INEFFECTIVE and absolutely no parent should be doing either one.
No they aren't, corporal punishment done properly is effective. Done badly, its horrible and fear inducing. We've not come so far from our evolutionary origins that a short, sharp shock will not give us a clue that something we're doing isn't good for us. Sadly, corporal punishment is more oft done wrong than it is right. But go on, what is a right and effective way then?
corporal punishment done properly is effective.
Source?
I could say the same to you. I can only give my experience of recieving corporal punishment from my parents as a child, which is, I'm entirely fine, love my parents, not mental issues of any sort, and, of my own volition, agree with what they did. If that's ineffective.... Just remembe, it's only recently in human histor that corporal punishment punishment has been deemed morally wrong. Go read Starship Troopers, Heinlein puts it across far better than I can.
Go read Starship Troopers, Heinlein puts it across far better than I can.
Are you seriously citing fiction in a debate on psychology How about I cite the American Psychological Association instead. The entire article is summed up at the end with: [release]"Until researchers, clinicians, and parents can definitively demonstrate the presence of positive effects of corporal punishment, including effectiveness in halting future misbehavior, not just the absence of negative effects, we as psychologists can not responsibly recommend its use," Gershoff writes.[/release] And I'll take the opinion of psychologists over what you heard in Starship Troopers.

I'm not citing a piece of fiction as proof at all, I'm saying, he put the same viewpoint across as I only more eleoquently. But I'm pretty sure, that despite our differing viewpoints, we can both say that what happened in the video was downright abusive and excessive.
